Here are the recaps: July 13: Spokane 10, Volcanoes 7 Salem-Keizer led early in the game and outhit host Spo- kane 13-7, but Volcano pitch- ers helped the Indians by issu- ing 10 walks. Trailing 5-3 going into the seventh inning, the Volcanoes went back ahead with four runs. With two out, Bryan Reynolds singled and Heath Quinn walked. Gustavo Ca- brera singled Reynolds home, and Ryan Howard scored Quinn with a double. John Riley singled to drive in Ca- brera and Howard. However, three walks, two hits, and a wild pitch gave the Indians four runs in the bot- tom of the seventh. Spokane added the last run of the game in the eighth. The Volcanoes went through fi ve pitchers, starting with Mac Marshall, with Car- los Diaz taking the loss at 1-1. Johan Juan was the winning pitcher in relief at 1-2. July 14: Volcanoes 12, Spokane 4 This time the Volcanoes made their hits -- 21 of them -- count. They had to come from behind to do it, trailing 4-3 after two innings. Their runs were spread out, with no more per inning than the three in the sixth. Starting pitcher Victor KEIZERTIMES/Derek Wiley Catcher John Riley went 2-for-5 with a double Tuesday. Concepcion allowed all the Indians’ runs, only two of which were earned, and struck out six in his six innings. Gio Brusa hit his third home run for Salem-Keizer and Ryan Howard and Bryan Reynolds their fi rst. Spokane’s Luis Terrero hit his fi rst. Concepcion’s record went to 2-4. Spokane starter Luke Lanphere was the losing pitcher with a 1-3 record. July 15: Spokane 4, Volcanoes 3 A 2-0 Salem-Keizer lead ended in the bottom of the fourth inning when the Indi- ans scored four runs. In the top of the fi rst, Bryan Reynolds hit his second home run of the season with Heath Quinn, who had singled, on base. Reynolds also walked, stole two bases, and scored on a ground out in the sixth. Spokane’s Seth Spivey hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Two outs followed, but then Darius Day walked, Stephen Lohr doubled him home, and a single by Brallan Perez scored Lohr. Henberger Medina was the Volcanoes’ starting and losing pitcher at 2-3. The Indians’ starter, Sal Mendez, got the win at 2-1, and Kaleb Fon- tenot had his fi rst save. July 16: Spokane 7, Volcanoes 1 The Volcanoes lost the rubber game of the series at Spokane on Saturday, getting clobbered 7-1. Spokane had 12 hits to four for Salem-Keizer, whose only run came in the second inning, when a wild pitch by starter Kyle Cody allowed Ryan Howard to score from third base. Northwood’s girls out- scored Jan Ree 216-95. Paris Boyd set a new pool record in the 11-12 fl y in 10.78. She also won the breast- gone to third on a double to left center fi eld by John Riley. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Indians had two out when Clay Middle- ton singled to center. Elio Castillo then hit a home run over the left center fi eld fence, giving the hosts all the runs they would need. Spokane scored two insur- ance runs in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fi fth. Kevin Lenik relieved starter Kyle Cody for Spokane in the sixth, with Heath Quinn hitting a leadoff single. Bryan Reynolds then hit a fl y to deep center that made center fi elder Spivey crash into the wall, but he caught the ball. Two outs followed. Both clubs used more pitchers than usual, apparently because Sunday would be an off day. Carlos Diaz, Jeff Burke, and Cesar Yanez pitched an inning apiece and pitched ef- fectively. Alex Daniele pitched the eighth and Johan Juan for the Indians. Volcano manager Kyle Haines, who has been rotat- ing his position players to a degree, gave little-used Dylan Manwaring a pinch hit job in the ninth, but he popped out to end the game. Cody was the winning pitcher to improve to 2-1. July 18: Volcanoes 8, Boise 7 A fi ve-run seventh inning gave Salem-Keizer a win to open this home series. The Hawks’ two fi rst-in- ning runs were answered by stroke and was on the fastest 11-12 medley relay team with Brooke Junker, Ashley Hawley and McKenna Olson as well as the fi rst place 15-18 free re- lay with Alyssa Garvey, Bella Walker and Emily Alger. Hawley won the 11-12 IM and free. She also swam on the winning 11-12 free relay with Madi Mahoney, Katie Alger and McKenna Olson. Garvey, Walker, Alger and Abbie Hawley won the 15- 18 medley relay. Garvey had the fastest times in the 13-14 free, fl y and breaststroke. Abbie Hawley touched the wall fi rst in the 15-18 free and Emily Alger took fi rst in the 15-18 IM and fl y. Madi Alt won the 13-14 IM and swam on the fast- est medley relay with Ken- nedy Buss, Madi Trammel and Grace Trammel. Alt, Grace, Buss and Lanah Metz won the free relay. Avery Buss touched the wall fi rst in the 9-10 IM, free and breaststroke. Rosella Cogar won the fl y and Kait- lyn Roop had the fastest time in the backstroke. In the seventh, with Boise ahead 4-3, Ryan Howard reached fi rst base on an er- ror, Zack Bowers walked, and Kevin Rivera loaded the bas- es with a bunt single. A wild pitch scored Howard, Ashford Fulmer singled Bowers home, and Manuel Geraldo singled Rivera home. Fulmer stole third and scored on a passed ball. Geraldo came home on another wild pitch. Boise scored three times in the ninth but ended up a run short. The Hawks had 11 hits, but the Volcanoes, with seven, took advantage of Boise’s mis- takes. Kendry Melo was the win- ning pitcher in relief at 3-1, and Cesar Yanez got his fourth save. Bunal, who made the fi fth-inning wild pitches, took the loss at 0-1. July 19: Boise 6, Volcanoes 3 The Hawks scored twice in the second inning and never lost the lead. Boise pitchers scattered Sa- lem-Keizer’s 13 hits by com- parison to the Hawks’ own 11, which included a solo home run by Luis Castro in the ninth inning. Trailing 5-1 as they went into the bottom of the eighth, the Volcanoes scored twice in that inning but got no fur- ther. Ryan Kirby doubled and scored on a single by Ryan Howard. A single by Manuel Geraldo drove in Howard, who had stolen second. Heath Quinn and Howard each had three hits for the Vol- canoes. Starting pitcher Matt Krook, considered one of the San Francisco Giants’ best prospects at this level, lasted only two innings. Boise starter Michael Zimmerman got his fi rst win against six losses, and Julian Fernandez had his fi rst save. The Volcanoes are home Friday through Monday against Everett. Skipper touched the wall fi rst in the 7-8 free and fl y. Madi Mahoney won the 7-8 breaststroke. Northwood’s boys won seven of eight relays to top Jan Ree 194-45. Kelson Whalen, Davis Ol- sen, Grant Schaffer and Tate Woodward fi nished fi rst in the 9-10 medley relay. Whalen, Olsen, Woodward and Pierce Walker clocked the fastest time in the free relay. Zachary Harrington, Cade Olson, Olen Cogar and Eric Olsen won both the 11-12 free and medley relays. Ethan Whalen, Bryce Junker, Bren- nan Whalen and Riley Ma- honey took fi rst in the 13-14 free relay. Parker Dean, Jabez Rhoades, Josiah Metz and Jake Wyer won the 15-18 free relay while Brock Wyer, Grant Biondi, Lucas Garvey and Noah Grunberg won the 15- 18 medley relay. Individual medley winners were Pierce Walker (9-10), Jackson Alt (11-12) and Bion- di (15-18). Ben Diede (7-8), Eric Ol- sen (11-12), Ethan Whalen (13-14) and Lucas Garvey (15- 18) were the freestyle winners. Diede also won the back and breaststroke. Eric and Ethan took fi rst in the breaststroke in their age groups. Hudson Hughes (9-10), Zander Rhoades (11-12) and Brennan Whalen (13-14) had the fastest times in the but- terfl y. Walker, Harrington and Junker won the 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 backstroke events. Davis Olsen took fi rst in the 9-10 breaststroke and Parker Dean touched the wall fi rst in the 15-18 breaststroke. For Northview, Ana Kosie- wicz had the fastest times in the 15-18 breaststroke and free while also swimming on the winning free and medley relay teams with Abby Reedy, Emma Garland and Bailey White. Garland won the 15- 18 fl y and backstroke while Reedy place fi rst in the 13-14 backstroke. But that wasn’t enough as the girls were outscored by Madrona 192-127. Annie Farris was the only other Northview girl to win an event, touching the wall fi rst in the 13-14 fl y. Northview’s boys also came up short against Madrona, 169-107. Jeremy Becker won the 11- 12 backstroke, free and IM. He also swam on the winning 13-14 medley relay with Alex Kosiewicz, Cole Garland and Gavin Gasperini. Eli Staley had the fast- est times in the 9-10 IM and breaststroke. He also joined Camden Whetten, Dom Sny- der and Tyler Barker on the winning medley relay. Snyder placed fi rst in the backstroke. Will Noble, Nick Kosie- wicz, Michael Halliday and Xzavier Parker had the fast- est times in both the 7-8 free and medley relays. Nicholas Maheu, Kaden Chanthalangsy, Luke Stucker and Ethan Her- ring won the 11-12 free relay. The summer swim season wraps up with the All-City meet on Saturday, July 30.
