to make
music in
Salem
A new event is seeking to
fill the streets of Salem with
music on the longest day of
the year, June 21.
“Make Music Day is a fun
and engaging way of bringing
together our local commu-
nity,” said event co-organizer
Carlee Wright, “It will high-
light the uniqueness of Salem
from its venues to its music as
it encourages community to-
getherness.”
Make Music Day Salem is
looking for performers and
venues to participate in the
inaugural event. Organiz-
ers are hoping to include all
genres of music from alterna-
tive to bluegrass and classical
to zydeco.
Performers and potential
venues are encouraged to visit
www.makemusicsalem.org
and sign up for the match-
making service. Registration
is free.
“In addition to music, we
are planning a variety of in-
teractive, educational and en-
tertaining activities that will
complement the day of mer-
riment and community build-
ing,” Wright added.
Make Music Day is an
outgrowth of the Fete de la
Musique, which originated
in France in 1982. The event
began as a call to musicians in
Paris to get out in the streets
on June 21 and play their mu-
sic. Since then it has spread
worldwide.
The Salem event is being
sponsored by RiverCity Rock
Star Academy and The Moxie
Initiative.
