Bull market saves KFD, taxpayer money
Primed markets and a top
rating helped the Keizer Fire
District soar past its goals for
the initial release of emergency
equipment bonds approved by
voters last November.
Bond money is being used
to purchase new fi re trucks and
ambulances in addition to re-
freshing other equipment past
its prime.
The district released its
fi rst series of general obliga-
tion bonds on April 5 with an
A1 rating by Moody’s Investor
Service. The bonds entered the
market with a $4 million bond
issue and the demand for the
bonds was in excess of $9.8
million. With such strong de-
mand for the district’s bonds,
district offi cials were able to
obtain an all-in interest cost
of 2.7 percent for 20 years vs.
what was originally estimated
at 3.9 percent.
Additionally, with such mar-
ket demand investors were pay-
ing a premium to purchase the
bonds, resulting in the district

ment as things unfolded, but
the bottom line is we were able
to save taxpayer money,” said
Chief Jeff Cowan, of the Keizer
Fire District, as he detailed the
exchange for the Keizer Fire
Board at a meeting Tuesday,
April 19.

team comprised of Piper Jaf-
fray, the bond underwriter for
Special District Association of
Oregon Advisory Services, and
the KFD’s municipal advisor
Hawkins Delafi eld & Wood.

Keizer musicians join Youth Symphony

The Salem Youth Symphony
spring concert is scheduled
for Sunday, April 24, at North
Salem High School, 765 14th
Street N.E.
The concert begins at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5
for seniors and free for students
18 and under.

al dance performance/food
drive will be held Wednesday,

to the show is three cans of
food or a $3 cash donation
per person and per dancer.

munity Food Bank.
