MHS lost the match 7-1. The McNary High School girls tennis team was swept by West Albany on March 29. The top three singles players for the Lady Celts – Hannah Childress, Krissy Kelty and Jannicke Martin – all fell 6-3 in their fi rst sets before also losing the second set. Martin came closest to win- ning a set, falling 7-5 in her second set. “The girls played timid, especially if they got down early in the match,” coach Garrett Jensen said. “West Albany is one of the top teams in the conference and I think that impacted the mental- ity of some of our girls.” Jensen said Martin played well. “She wasn’t able to close the second set after she was up 5-2,” Jensen said. “However, I was impressed with her play.” Each of the four doubles teams struggled. “We really need to work on our doubles strategy,” Jensen said. “We look lost on the court and the girls need to do a better job at communicating with each other. We have some work to do and a lot of that starts with me. However, I see a lot of potential for growth this season.” Ask Mr. Trash Q: What types of glass can be recycled? back to Whiteaker on Monday. “The kids started applaud- ing,” Coburn said. “They all wanted to touch the check. They were all very happy and excited about it.” Coburn’s plans for the money should make the stu- dents excited as well. “I will probably use the money for something like new uniforms,” he said. “We’ll fi nd something that will affect the most kids possible. I’m not one to do a one-time thing like use the money to enter a tourna- ment.” We are Everything Except Overpriced KEIZERTIMES/Craig Murphy Noah Kuhl stretches to return a volley during McNary boys doubles action against North Salem on March 31.
