William (Bill) D. Rumpf
Former Keizer resident Bill
Rumpf passed away on Dec.
28, 2015 in Kirkland, Wash.
Bill married Dawn 51 years
ago and together they had two
sons, William (wife Kris) and
Robert with twin grandsons
Alec and Cale. Bill was a for-
mer presi-
dent
of
Keizer Lit-
tle League,
and with
the help
of many
volunteers
Rumpf
was instru-
mental in the original con-
struction of the Keizer Little
League Fields.
Bill is survived by his moth-
er, Patricia DuBois, two sisters
Sue (Chuck) and Pam (Vance)
and three brothers, Dan (Wen-
dy), Dave (LaVonne), H.T.
(Shelly), along with numerous
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles
and extended family.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, the
55th annual Keizer First Citi-
zen and Awards Banquet takes
place at Keizer Quality Suites,
located at 5188 Wittenberg
Lane. The event starts with a 6
p.m. social hour and dinner at
7, followed by the awards. In-
dividual tickets are $45 while
tables of eight are available for
$360.
Expect Christine Dieker,
the longtime Keizer Cham-
ber executive director who
is leaving after more than 17
years at the helm, to be hon-
ored at some point.
Continuing a trend started
last year, there will also be
Pairings of Excellence tables.
Special couples, friends, coop-
erating organizations or part-
ners that are stewards of the
community will be honored
and recognized at these tables.
As of last week, 12 busi-
nesses and organizations had
sponsored such tables: Bay
Insurance Agency, Big Town
Hero Keizer, Chemeketa
Community College, Jack-
son’s Body Shop, Oregon
State Credit Union, R. Bauer
Insurance, Remodeling by
Classic Homes, Rich Duncan
Construction, Scenic Valley
Farm, Salem Area Chamber
of Commerce, St. Edward
Catholic Church and Walery’s
Premium Pizza.
Overall banquet sponsors
are Capitol Auto Group and
Allied Video Productions.
The event will see Keizer’s
First Citizen, Merchant of the
Year, President’s Award and
Service to Education Awards
be handed out.
Former Mayor Lore Chris-
topher, now chair of the Keiz-
er Public Arts Commission,
won the First Citizen award
last year. Joe Egli, a former
Keizer City Councilor who
works for R. Bauer Insurance,
was Merchant of the Year. Dan
Clem, who worked for the
Keizer Chamber at the time
and is now with the Salem
Chamber, won the President’s
Award. Power couple Chuck
and Krina Lee won the Ser-
vice to Education Award.
Chuck has since opened the
Career Technical Education
Center (CTEC) with former
McNary High School princi-
pal John Honey and is still a
member of the Salem-Keizer
School Board, while Krina is
executive director of the Sa-
lem-Keizer Education Foun-
dation.

New this year is a $60 night

hotel, which includes break-

Nathan Bauer is returning
as event emcee, while Grand
Jazz and Swing Band will pro-
vide the live music.

Shannon Johnson to get de-
tails sorted out.
KPAC member Rick Day
liked the idea.
“We’re great with what
you’re talking about,” Day told
Smith.
Smith seemed pleased with
the discussion and the recep-
tion she got from the commis-
sion.
“I have enough informa-
tion to move forward,” she
said. “I will e-mail John and
get it going.”
KPAC members discussed
issues such as signing contracts,
liability and whether the event
should be considered a contest
or show.
