Today in History
Just after midnight, the majority of German troops
engaged in World War I cease fi ring their guns and artillery
and commence to sing Christmas carols. At certain points
along the eastern and western fronts, the soldiers of
Russia, France, and Britain even heard brass bands joining
the Germans in their joyous singing.

Legacy Health and Silver-
ton Health have reached an-
other milestone in their effort
to align, with the governing
boards for each organization
signing a defi nitive agreement
recently that outlines how the
two will come together.
Silverton Health opened a
clinic in Keizer in early 2014.
“Both Legacy and Silverton
have long traditions of serving
their communities by provid-
ing high quality health care
services,” said Silverton Health
interim president/CEO Sarah
Fronza. “This affi liation builds
upon our traditions and fur-
thers our missions.”
The next step in the pro-
cess is to submit the agree-
ment to the Oregon Attorney
General’s Offi ce for review
and approval. The affi liation
is expected to be fi nalized in
early spring.
The proposed affi liation
will benefi t both Silverton
Health and Legacy Health by
fi nding shared ways to im-
prove population health while
reducing the cost of care. Leg-
acy has pledged to invest more
than $60 million over eight
years to support and grow
programs and services for Sil-
verton Health.
“As non-profi t, tax-exempt,
community-based organiza-
tions, our missions commit
us to continuously managing
and improving the health of
the populations and commu-
nities we serve,” said George
Brown, MD, president/CEO
of Legacy Health. “The af-
fi liation allows Legacy and
Silverton to integrate their
care delivery with the help of
shared information technol-
ogy, telemedicine, clinical pro-
tocols, comprehensive quality
improvement activities and
specialty services and consul-
tation.”
Upon closing, Silverton
Hospital will be known as
Legacy Silverton Medical
Center, the seventh of Leg-
acy Health’s medical centers
and its only medical center
in Marion County. Silverton
Health clinics and facilities
will remain in place operating
under the Legacy brand, and
all Silverton Health employ-
ees will become employees of
Legacy Health.

Upcoming plays at MHS
Did you miss the fi rst part
of McNary High School’s
drama season?
If so, you have a second
chance.
While McNary’s version
of Disney’s Beauty & the Beast
wrapped last month, Anatomy
of Gray takes place in January.
Anatomy of Gray, by Jim
Leonard Jr., is the story of a
“medicine man” blown into
1800s town on the winds of
a tornado. At fi rst he is able to
heal all ailments, but then the
town is struck with a plague
and his powers begin to un-
spool.
Next spring, the drama de-
partment will host its annual
One Act Festival.
McNary’s thespians will
also perform The Effect of
Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-
Moon Marigolds. That play is
the tale of a dysfunctional
family of women and the
young girl coming of age at its
center.
In April, the Celtics will
stage Romeo and Juliet for their
fi nal play.
