Construction work continues in Keizer Station Area C, where
Bonaventure Senior Living is building a 154-unit retirement
community and Mountain West Investment Corporation is
building a 180-apartment facility. Since the land being used
was formerly a big fi eld, a massive infrastructure project has to
be done fi rst, including punching through McLeod Lane from
its current end at Chemawa Road.

to break up in different direc-
tions. Last year was crowded, so
people piled up at the end of
the route. We have always end-
ed at Glynbrook, but we’ll have
new signs for this year.”
It’s estimated about 80,000
spectators come to watch the
parade each year.
Those wanting to enter the
parade can do so by following

Tree lighting ceremony
at Walery Plaza Dec. 1
This year, get into the
Christmas spirit in Keizer
right from the start of De-
cember.
Starting at 6 p.m. on Tues-
day, Dec. 1, two lucky children
will be chosen to assist Santa
Claus as he fl ips the switch
that lights up Keizer’s Christ-
mas tree.
The annual lighting cer-
emony is at Walery Plaza,
named for Keizer resident
Dave Walery, affectionately
known as Mr. Christmas due
to his volunteer work over
many years maintaining and
installing the decorations that
line River Road during the
holidays as well as his work
with the permanent tree.
Walery Plaza is located
where River Road and Cher-
ry Avenue meet. If you’re
driving along River Road on
Dec. 1 and can’t fi nd it, just
look for the tall tree with the
their name and age on the
form. A Keizer leader will
draw out the two lucky names.
The actual fl ipping of the
switch on the tree lights is
expected to happen around
7 p.m. Before that, Santa is
expected to arrive in Keizer
around 6:45 and hitch a ride
to Walery Plaza in a fi re truck
courtesy of his friends at the
Keizer Fire District.

$500 for commercial entries.
“We have a lot of businesses
in the parade this year,” Mitch-
ell said. “For $500 you can be a
commercial entry and you get
to advertise. Four people in the
parade last year YouTubed their
entry and got more than one
million hits each. That’s great
exposure for your non-profi t
or your business. Companies
bring their employees together
and build fl oats, which is great
fun. It’s a great team-building
exercise.”
The same could be said of
the last 25 years.
“It’s been an incredible ride,”
Mitchell said.
