Nine years later, Danielle
Dial’s dream is fi nally coming
true.
Her new Sanctuary Salon
and Spa, located at 4817 River
Road North, had its grand
opening last week and an
open house last weekend. The
salon had a soft opening Oct.
1, with the fi rst few weeks
used to see what needed to
be tweaked and allowing em-
ployees to get a feel for things.
“I’ve been thinking about
it for nine years,” Dial said. “It
took eight months of planning
and looking to get it all pulled
together.”
That would lead to the ob-
vious question: why did it take
nine years for the dream to
become reality?
“We had a baby,” Dial said.
“We got a call asking if we’d
be interested in adopting a
baby boy. Then we’ve had fos-
ter care. It needed to be the
right time.”
With six children at home
– mostly teenagers – Dial
knew it was time to fi nally
pursue her dream.
“I always wanted to be a
mom,” she said. “That’s what I
wanted to do. I was trying to
see what I can do outside the
home once I was older. I al-
ways loved the hospitality in-
dustry and this felt right. This
became my dream nine years
ago when Radiance went out
of business. I had played with
other things, working part-
time from home. I knew I had
to get out of the house. I was
in the house for 23 years.”
Dial and her family moved
to North Salem in 2000, then
to Keizer in 2006. When she
started looking for a building
for her business, Dial knew
where she wanted to be.
“I looked at Keizer and Sa-
lem, but I wanted to specifi -
cally be in Keizer,” Dial said.
“At fi rst there wasn’t anything
to fi t with my dream. I needed
enough open space or to cre-
ate an open space for a hair
fl oor. We had a size range we
needed, which made it dif-
fi cult. For eight months we
looked for a space. We found
this at the end of May and
started working on the build-
ing in June.”
Dial was glad to get the
space, both because of the size
and the location.
“We broadened our hori-
zons but came back home,”
she said. “This is such a great
community. This is needed
here. There’s not a lot of space,
unless you go to Keizer Sta-
tion. Downtown is perfect. It’s
growing.”
Converting the 4,000
square foot space to its cur-
rent layout took some help.
The project – and the business
overall – has been a family af-
fair.
“We had to take down
walls, we pulled up carpeting
and patched walls,” Dial said.
“We did a lot of work in here.
It’s not the same building. We
had to make it pretty. All six
boys helped with the carpet
and walls. My daughter Ivy
works here, while daughter-
in-law Kaite is assistant man-
ager and part owner. The kids
walk over from McNary High
School after school, then walk
home and get the little one off
the bus.”
Dial knew the people who
worked at Radiance and thus
picked their brains for advice
on what to offer at her salon.
The 15 employees at Sanc-
tuary offer hair cutting, col-
oring, hair removal, massage,
body treatments, facials, mani-
cures, pedicures and can host
parties. The pedicure bench
can fi t up to eight people
while a bridal party of up
to 15 people can be hosted.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday through Saturday.
Haircuts are $25 for men
and $35 for women, while
coloring ranges from $65 to
$150. Pedicures start at $30,
manicures at $25.
“We tell people if they have
stylists they love elsewhere,
stay with them but try our
other services here,” Dial said.
“We are not here to steal oth-
er peoples’ clients. We think
there’s room for us here. We’re
comfortable luxury.”
