this July 4.
July 3 through 5
The 25th annual appear-
ance of the Northwest Civil
War Council at Willamette
Mission State Park. Approxi-
mately 1,000 reenactors are
expected, who will demon-
strate the living and fi ghting
conditions of the early 1860’s.
Battles daily at 11 a.m. and 3
p.m. Actor Steven Holgate
reprises his role as Abraham
Lincoln Saturday at 1 p.m. Ad-
mission $5 to $8 plus day use
park fee.
The city of Independence’s
much-lauded fi reworks dis-
play is now a full weekend of
activities. Parades, a watermel-
on-eating contest, live music,
movies in the park and, of
course, fi reworks displays each
night at 10 p.m. For the full

St. Paul Rodeo: rodeo, wild
west art show, carnival, pa-
rade, BBQ cook-off and Tack

State offi cials are reminding
Oregonians to “Be prepared,
be responsible, be safe and
be aware” when it comes to
fi reworks this season.
The fi reworks season
in the Beaver State ends
July 5.
Oregon law bans
possession, use, or sale of
fi reworks that fl y, explode,
or travel more than six feet
on the ground or 12 inches
into the air. Fireworks
commonly called bottle
rockets, Roman Candles,
and fi recrackers are all
illegal in Oregon.
Under Oregon
law, offi cials may
seize
illegal
f i rewo r k s
and
fi ne
offenders
u p
to $500 per
violation.
Those who misuse fi reworks
or allow fi reworks to cause
damage are liable and may
be required to pay fi re
suppression costs or other
damage. Parents are also liable
for fi reworks damage caused
by their children.
The

everyone to use
the four B’s of
safe fi reworks
use:

Be
Prepared
before lighting
fi reworks: keep
water
available
by using a garden
hose or bucket.
• Be Safe when
lighting fi reworks: keep
children and pets away
from fi reworks.
• Be Responsible after
lighting fi reworks: never
relight a dud. Wait 15 to
20 minutes then soak it in
a bucket of water before
disposal.
• Be Aware: use only legal
fi reworks and use them only
in legal places.

Fourth of July on the Wil-
lamette Queen: a late dinner
cruise, then stay on board for
the best seat to watch the Sa-
lem fi reworks show over the
river at 10 p.m. $55 per per-
son, includes gratuity. 200 S.

begins at 7 p.m.
Stayton has a parade at 4
p.m. and a BBQ beef dinner,
Free Whiskey Band and kara-
oke opportunities from 6:30 to
9:30 p.m.all at Stayton Middle
School. Fireworks at 10 p.m.
Lincoln City’s celebration
begins at 8 a.m. with a pan-
cake breakfast and ends with
fi reworks at dusk over Siletz

Newport 4th of July Rock
White and Blue Music festi-
val is coming back for a sec-
ond year. The festival provides
visitors and locals with music
on Newport’s Historic Bay
Front leading up to the city’s
fi reworks display. Music ranges
from folk to blues to reggae to
classic rock. The fun begins at
2 p.m. and ends with fi reworks
at 10 p.m.

The corner of River Road and Juedes Ave. N. was a beehive Sat-
urday, June 20, as bargain hunters browsed through thousands
of items big and small at Keizer CERT’s annual garage sale. This
year’s sale grossed more than $7,000 for CERT’s operations and
equipment. New Keizer residents Annie and Andy Klug browse
through sale items. They recently relocated from Indiana.
