get a break in
spring break
Spring break is here again
and that means nothing if not
day upon day of sheer and
utter boredom for local stu-
dents.
Here are some options for
when the complaining starts:
• The Keizer Boys & Girls
Club, 4840 Noren Avenue
N.E., will be open 8 a.m. to
5:30 p.m. each day of spring
break. Cost is $5 per year and
valid September through Au-
gust.
• The Marion-Polk Food
Share is offering SuperFun-
HappyBreakTime, a free meal
as well as fun activities, lessons
about plants and gardening,
Children will take home a
free book. Children in Keiz-
er can visit Claggett Creek
Middle School, Cummings
Elementary School, Keizer
Civic Center, or the Keizer
Boys & Girls Club to take
part in the fun from noon to
1 p.m. March 23 through 27.
• The Kroc Center, 1865
Bill Frey Drive N.E., in Sa-
lem, is offering a seven-day
pass for $24.99 that will give
access to the pools, movies,
rock walls, a bounce house
and putt-putt golf course be-
tween March 18 and 25. For

• Salem Public Library,
585 Liberty Street S.E., in Sa-
lem, is offering a full slate of
spring break fun. On Tuesday,
March 24, elementary-age
students can join in garden
activities beginning at 2 p.m.
Teens can play popular board
games on life-size boards the
same day from 4 to 5 p.m.
On Wednesday, March 25,
children age fi ve and up can
take part in spring-themed art
projects beginning at 2 p.m.
On Thursday, March 26, kids
ages 5 and older can stretch it
out with Yoga for Kids from
2 to 3 p.m. On the same day,
the library will host a magic
workshop from 3 to 6 p.m.,
Eugene-based magician Jay
Frasier will teach slight-of-
hand and illusion trick. Pre-
registration is recommended

• A.C. Gilbert’s Discovery
Village is offering a spring
break camp March 23 to 27
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Camp-
ers will have the opportunity
to be a scientist, world trav-
eler, nature enthusiast, maker
and superhero all in one week.
Cost is $140 for members or
$152 for non-members. Reg-

• The Salem Family
YMCA is offering one-week
swimming lessons with an
extra 15 minutes of instruc-
tion per lesson between
March 23 and 27. Lessons are
$30 for members and $50 for
