Early round wins against

Facing a tough Pendleton
team in the fi nals, the Keizer
Celts battled strong to eventu-

the second place Celts their

she’s faced in summer leagues.
“We aren’t all on the same team in summer
league, but it will be nice to see them in a new
setting,” Villarreal said.
Junior Kinsey McNaught said it’s the extra
things the team has added to practices that give
her high hopes.
“We’ve upped our conditioning and every-
thing else looks better as a result,” McNaught
said. “It’s given us a different tempo and our
practices are more upbeat,”
McNary had a powerful line-up in 2014 and
two of the biggest surprises were freshmen Han-
nah Carr and Nicole Duran, now back for their
sophomore seasons. The team is adding four
more freshmen to the varsity roster this season.
As last season progressed, the Celts’ biggest
obstacles became illness and injury. In nearly ev-
ery game in the late season, two our more posi-
tions had to be rearranged as a result of missing
players. Keeping players healthy is a priority for
Wise, but he also hopes to see the team readjust
their mental approach to the game as well.
“For the past couple of years, we’d seem to
start off good and then kind of plateau. This
year, I want to keep challenging them and to
have them challenge each other. If we can do
that week-to-week, we’ll do well this season,”
Wise said.
