On Sunday, May 17, the McNary High School Fine Arts Department is hop- ing to present the McNary Legacy Concert, celebrat- ing McNary’s 50th Anniver- sary and honoring Alice Rose Jones, the school’s fi rst and longest-serving choir director. The event will feature the Alice Rose Jones Heri- tage Choir, a tour-de-force ensemble of graduates from 1965-2014. Jones will be pres- ent and will be conducting several numbers with the ex- pected large reunion choir. Graduates of McNary who sang in the choir program during high school can go to mcnaryfinearts.org/legacy- choir to sign up for the event. It is important that per- sons interested in participating complete the interest form website so that the program, school and school district can commit to hosting the per- formance. By fi lling out the interest form, participants help guarantee the event will be produced. Once the participation minimum has been met, those interested will be directed to a registration page with a link to pay for a participation fee to cover music and hosting fees. If confi rmed, music will be mailed April 1 and part-learn- ing audio tracks will be posted on YouTube April 15. ‘Benny’ loves babies Clear Lake funder set for Saturday Jan Schueller was Benny- ed at the Keizer Safeway last week when she bought some baby food for her day care. When she opened the pack- age of Gerber Graduates the following day she found a $100 bill signed “Benny.” But the rain of hundred dollar bills didn’t end there. She called to tell her daughter, Heather Adair, who had bought the same prod- uct, of her good fortune. Adair opened her package and found her own $100 bill. Jan found a second $100 in another package of the baby food. Jan and Adair found a total of $300. “Benny was very nice to us that day,” said Jan. have years of experience in EXPERIENCE We design, carpentry, and engineering. won’t stop until the job is PROFESSIONALISM We fi nished and you are content. long list of satisfi ed TRUSTWORTHINESS Our clients attest to our ability to get the job done right. 503.393.2875 remodelkeizer.com CCB#155626 By ERIC A. Principal Tara Baldridge said the proceeds from the event help offset the costs of student experiences such as: family eve- ning events; classroom supplies; the Summer Library Program which supports the opening of the library for two hours a week during the summer; an- nual fi eld trips for each grade level, including a multi-day Outdoor School for fi fth grad- ers. Salem Child Development Center will be offering child- care at the school, 7425 Mead- owglen Street N.E., during the benefi t. For the past several years, the Clear Lake Parent-Teacher As- sociation has been raising funds for the installation of an asphalt track at the school. They are planning to have it completed this summer. “This is a community thing because the whole neighbor- hood uses our space at the school, and we’d like to have them contribute,” McVay said. “We still need some volunteers for in-kind donations and fi - nancial contributions can be given at the school offi ce.” Baldridge said she’s seen more community use of Clear Lake facilities than any other school she’s worked at. “Even though the PTA con- tributions to Clear Lake class- rooms don’t directly benefi t the greater community, the addi- tion of a paved track will be a great benefi t to the entire com- munity, all year long,” Baldridge said.
