seem that the angels must weep.
It all makes one weary and
sick at heart, and very discour

the Brotherhood o f Man.

cause all men are not like the one
who went in search of the Holy

probably be lonesome in such a
world. We do not expect to see
such religion without cant, wealth
without want, or virtue without
vice; but we would like to see
the human race devote itself to
g rander aims than following the
fashions or picking its ow’n pock
et while camping on the trail of
the almighty dollar.
We want
to see more homes and few er

An snnouncement of a state
wide campaign that will be con
ducted by the Oregon State
Chamber of Commerce and the
part Stayton is to play was out
lined today by W. L. Miller
representing the State Chamber
who visited Stayton in connection
with a survey of the state now
in progress.
The campaign, its purposes
and aims, was discussed at length
by Mr. Miller with J. W. Mayo,
who has been selected as chair
man o f the Stayton executive
committee which will co operate
with other cities o f the state in
the state-wide movement. Assoc
iated with him on the committee
will be George H. Bell, J. H.
Thoma. George Keech and Grant
Murphy.
The Oregon State Chamber of
Commerce has undertaken plans
to play a big part in the future
development o f the state. Funds
will be raised to carry on an e x
tensive program o f activities.
Among, these will be an adver
tising camprign to set forth the
opportunities to be found in
Oregon and encourage land set
tlement; administration to pro
mote irrigation; extension o f
railroads; refund on reclamation
fund; extension of highways
both for commercial purposes
and through national forests; co
operation with agricultural and
lumbering interests and numer
ous other projects, the develop-
m e n t o f w h i c h will be o f
incalculable value to the atate.
Other representatives o f the
State Chamber o f Commerce will
visit Stayton later and complete
the oaganization work for the
state-wide movement which it is
declared will benefit every sec
tion o f Oregon from the largest
city to the smallest hamlet.

Celebration at Stayton
A t the meeting Wednesday
evening, the Executive commit
tee, that have the celebration in
hand, reached the final spot.
The g'ad tidings have reached
the committee that all the small
towns close to Stayton have sig-
nifled their intention o f coming
to Stayton on the 3rd o f July to
help us put on the biggest cele-
bration in its history.
The Hon. Percy R. Kelly will
be speaker of the day and the
Cherrian Band o f Salem, will
entertain the people all day with
their celebrrted music.
King Bing and his Cherrians
will be in line when the parade
starts and a number of citizens
outside o f the Cherrians will be
here to help majfe merry. Tur-
ner and Silverton will come
along with other outside towns,
It is the intention of the corn-

But in its current
issue it makes a mis-bobble. due
to oversight. It attemps to show
that Congress cannot be owned
and controled by the rich and in
fluential or it never would have
passed an income tax which
takes away such a large per cent
o f the excess profits. On the

tractor firm o f Albany, has been
experimenting on ways and
means to get by the gasoline sit
uation and have all autonpobiles
and tractors o f the country on
the move. A fte r fully diagnos
ing the case, he reports that a
mixture o f half gasoline and half
kerosene can be used in cars with
good results without injuring the
motor if the crank case is drain
ed about every 250 miles. Most
tractors, says Harold, are run
entirely on keroeene but the auto
mobile, with more delicate ma
chinery, will require a mixture
of at least 50 per cent gasoline.
The pistol rings will not be in
jured if the engine is drained and
filled with new lubricating oil
every 250 or 300 miles. Spark
plugs are another part of the
anatomy o f the auto that should
be kept clean, according to Mr.
Harold, to get best results
