KRAMER, Proprietor STA Y TO N OREGON , Amther Letter frta Utter Celt Paris, France, 1-28-1919. Dear Mother:—Thought I would drop a few lines. Well, this finds me ss well ss ever, and I hope it finds you the same. Well, today makes about a month here in Paris. I have seen about one.q u arter of the city and expect to see all there is of interest during the rest of my stay here. The weather here is about the same as in Portland. Oregon, but Portland is the best city. You have heard a lot of Paris being the prettiest city going. Well, it maybe, but I don’t think much of it. • I have given up hopes of being home before June, and have not received any mail for sometime. Am anxious to come back home since the war is practically over. The land of Liberty, th a t’s the land I love and no other. Will close with love and best wishes Your son, Corporal Luther Cole, 2nd Provisional Guard Company, Paris District. And ain’t we proud of evkry one, From Pershing to the ranks. No m atter their complexions Their our own intrepid Yanks. Who went to fight the devil; (And fought like demons, too;) Them chaps have showed their colors— And they’re all Red, White and Blye. And some there were who won’t come back, And the little stars of blue In the service flags hung up for them Look gold as real stars do, And up above ‘‘God’s service flag.” Spread out across the skies, I like to feel a welcome waits For every lad that dies. To show his faith that right is might— That right comes from the Lord. And not the right of Prussian fright To wield a dripping sword. And I believe that every man Who falls for freedom’s soil. To make this world a better place, Will stand four-square with God.
