Address all Communications to The Stayton Mail PRUSSIANISM OR AMERICANISM. That is the sole issue in the tide of socialism sweeping over our country—which shall it be. prussianuation or stay AmericanT With all the alleged mistakes, blunders and imperfections of the American jtolitical system, for fifty years a hundred million people prospered. We enjoyed greater opportunities and achieved greater happi ness and made more progress to the square inch per individual than any nation. Paternalism and socialism read well and talk well, but the American system that which they attack, has always worked well. Bolshevikism viewed through the tortoise-shell rimmed glasses of some soft-handed and often soft-headed theorist is a nostrum. It is a name for the highest flowering of rampant socialism that opened the door for kaiser kultur and is not making the people happier. Prussianism is despotism by the all-highest. Bolshevikism is despotism by' the all-lowest. American democracy means opportun ity for all. “ Democracy is the only system on trial today that is intelli gently planned and fitted to the needs of the world." ■U. ,J> U.W Which do you want for your 10c—ordi nary plug or lasting tobacco satisfaction. 4* Cook in Cool Comfort W e have a large line of the best oil cook stoves on the market in all sizes such as Perfection and Blue Flame Stoves Peyton Brand These makes are too well known to need description, with one of these stoves you will be able todo your cook ing in a cool kitchen Real Gravely Chewing Pks£ 1 0 c a p o u c h —a n d w orth it Gravulylmaft . o tmeelt Imngortt t u P. When one stops to think what would have happened to our country if the seven hundred amendments proposed to our federal constitution in the past twenty years had all been adopted, he hesitates. The shigle great fact remains that the federal and state eonsti- tutions have been tested out by experience and found adequate to the strain of uccessfully carrying on the greatest war in hi-*ory. It does not seem a favorable time to alter radically the basis of our state or federal government when we are engaged in a hand to hand struggle between democracy and autocracy foy the whole world. Experiments and expense of holding constitutional conventions should be avoided above all things and those who have radical propositions to promote can well afford to await a more convenient season. j U .u v i l U , V à rg in i« The Star Theatre is Showing Stars of magnitude this week NO TIME FOR TINKERING. .il Mo m w . f o c /U u i (A um a t J i m a r y ftJu g A Paramount Picture B anking in every form.
