country—which shall it be. prussianuation or stay AmericanT
With all the alleged mistakes, blunders and imperfections of the
American jtolitical system, for fifty years a hundred million people
prospered.
We enjoyed greater opportunities and achieved greater happi­
ness and made more progress to the square inch per individual than
any nation.
Paternalism and socialism read well and talk well, but the
American system that which they attack, has always worked well.
Bolshevikism viewed through the tortoise-shell rimmed glasses
of some soft-handed and often soft-headed theorist is a nostrum.
It is a name for the highest flowering of rampant socialism that
opened the door for kaiser kultur and is not making the people
happier.
Prussianism is despotism by the all-highest. Bolshevikism is
despotism by' the all-lowest. American democracy means opportun­
ity for all.

“TYRANT FEAR”
There are still a number of people who think it is very important
to press innumerable constitutional amendments and some even ad­
vocate holding constitutional conventions in some western states.
When one stops to think what would have happened to our
country if the seven hundred amendments proposed to our federal
constitution in the past twenty years had all been adopted, he
hesitates.
The shigle great fact remains that the federal and state eonsti-
tutions have been tested out by experience and found adequate to
the strain of uccessfully carrying on the greatest war in hi-*ory.
It does not seem a favorable time to alter radically the basis of
our state or federal government when we are engaged in a hand to
hand struggle between democracy and autocracy foy the whole
world.
Experiments and expense of holding constitutional conventions
should be avoided above all things and those who have radical
propositions to promote can well afford to await a more convenient
season.
