Mr. Porter states thst the Mariposa, which recent ly went down, was the boat that he and Warren Richardson went to Alaska on. He also says that there were about 30 men who had worked under him, on the boat when she went down. Stayton friends of Corp. Billy Smoke, who went east with Co. M. some months ago, have re ceived word that he has been sick in bed for eight weeks. He was taken sick with scarlet fe ver, which was followed by pleurisy and a complication o f disorders. He is now in the general hospital in New York and has about recovered from his ailments.
