no to the question of "Adding the 11th
and 12th grades to the Stayton high
school and making the entire course of
study conform to that required by the
school law for the state of Oregon."
Every one who ia a voter and is In
terested should attend this meeting,
f o r Stayton surely need* a better
chance for those who do not wish to
stop with the Hth grade.
It ia vary little incentive to a boy
or a girl to start in the 9th grade in
Slayton when the finish of their high
school course will have to be made in
some other town, with perhape a dis
qualifying mark registered tor the
work done In this school on account of
the lack of one or two studies that
should have been taught in the 9th
and loth grades.
Stayton graduated a nice class of
boys and girls from the 8th grade last
June, those boys and girls want to
start RIGHT in the 9th grade; be equal
with any 9th grader* in the state
whether it is bcio or Satem.
Under our present rourae of study,
we cannot give them that equal chance
to which they are entitled. Our 9th
and 10th grades are lacking and there
is no chance to go higher without go
ing to some other town. Let’* remedy
this next Monday at the school house
at 1 30 p. m.
If this proposition fails, and it may,
about every other person you meet
will say:
"Well 1 really forgot all
about the school meeting, and 1 aup-
puased it would carry anyhow." Bet
ter come and see that it does go
through. I t’s your business as well aa
the other person's.

THE BIGGEST NOISE
EVER MADE
"The biggest noise the world has
ever heard," is expected to oe made
all along the Pacific Coast from British
Columbia to Panama at the time the
last rock barrier in the Panama Canal
is blown out and the waters of the At
lantic and Pacific oceans are united.
Arrangements are being made to have
the news flashed instantly to every city
on the Pacific Coast when the final
blast is exploded and it is the intention
to have every wheel in each town stop
ped for a few minutes while bells,
whistles and every other known noise
making device compete in the produc
tion of noise. As soon as the loose
rocks and debris can be removed from
th-i canal after the explosion, which is
expected to take place October 10, the
canal will be open to the passage of
vessels although the official opening
will n o t b e announced for several
months.

price as long as they last.
Hopgrowers in Oregon this year are
enjoying the unusual combination of
big crop and high price*, the yield be
ing one of the finest the state has ever
had and the market is advancing at the
rate of one to two cent* per day. The
demand at the present time is largely
from Europe, English buyers, especial
ly, being eagci to stock up while the
| price is within reason. So far, Ameri
can buyers are making little effort to
buy, although *it is known that many
of them have contracted hops to the
brewers at prices considerably below
the present market. Oregon’s crop ia
probably the best of any hop growing
section in the world, and aa it is con
ceded that the totai world crop for this
year will fall many millions of ponnds
below the average annual consumption,
the only worry ol the Oregon farmer ia
that he may be induced to sell too soon.
It is freely predicted that the price
will go above 30 cents within the next
few weeks.
