Box 9H S tayton , O regon.
The State Fair which has just closed was a revelation
to many of our populace scattered as they are over the
Beaver State. It was gratifying to the editor to hear one
gentleman w ho resides at Eugene discussing the dairy- cow
proposition. He was very- emphatic in expressing himself
that, “ Oregon had nothing but Jerseys" and “ they- were
good for nothing but to sell cream or butter' he said what
he wanted was a cow that yvould raise a good calf, that
would develop into a good farm cow and its offspring could
be sold either as a yearling or upwards, he did not yvant any
of them yare Jersies.
W hen seen later in the day looking over the splendid
display of stock he had completely changed his tune, and
instead of yvriting to his triends in the east that Oregon
had nothing but Jerseys he said he yvas goina to tell them
to sell out at once for yvhat they could get and com e to
Oregon, for here they raise the best cattle and horses he
ever saw, even better hogs and sheep than he ever sayv
back east or anywhere else.
His expression yvas verified by hundreds of visitors
from other sections, and there is no yvav possible by which
to advertise the actur' resources of any section than to
have an exhibit at such a State Fair as has just closed in
Salem. Let us bear in mind this fact, so that next year
Stayton and vicinity w ill not be yvithout a splendid agri
cultural as yvell as stock exhibit.
Quite true, w e are only a part of .Marion County but
w e have more opportunity to offer than any like area of
the state. If you are in doubt come and see.
