Skating into the
HOLIDAY SPIRIT
Nick Rosenberger/Spokesman
Kiley and Kristen Barnes practice ice skating and hockey skills at the Redmond Ice Rink on Dec. 3 during a free skate session.
BY NICK ROSENBERGER • Redmond Spokesman
T
he Redmond Holiday Market, sponsored by the Redmond
Chamber of Commerce, popped up on Dec. 3 at
Centennial Park with tents and shops selling a multitude of
knickknacks, gifts and food. Santa Claus was also in attendance.
Some of the businesses and or-
ganizations in attendance included
See’s Candy, Redmond Kiwanis,
Bend Permanent Jewelry Co., Key-
stone Natural Beef and Eqwine
Wine Bar.
Across the street, the Redmond
Ice Rink also opened to the public
this week.
Kiley and Kristen Barnes, who
spent Dec. 3 practicing hockey
moves during the rink’s free skate
session, said it was great that Red-
mond is able to provide the opportu-
nity to skate without having to drive
to Bend — where they’re partici-
pating in the Bend Park and Recre-
ation District’s hockey league at the
Pavilion.
“There’s a lot of demand in this
area,” Kiley said. “There’s so much
interest.”
The Redmond Ice Rink lets them
get practice in before their next com-
petitions.
Kristen said they’ve enjoyed par-
ticipating in hockey because it’s
something they can do together, get
some exercise in and is a great way
to meet people.
The ice rink is open 5 to 9 p.m.
Monday through Thursday, 3 to
10 p.m. Friday through Saturday and
from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. There
are also free skate sessions from
10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through
Thursday and from 10 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Rental skates and a session on the
ice cost $5 while it costs $1.25 for
those with their own skates. Fami-
lies may also buy a $15 family pass
for up to six people from the same
household.
