Co-op purchases potato warehouse in 1947

August 3, 1922 — Red-
mond girls pass teachers’ ex-
aminations
Mrs. Lottie Mead, Kathryn
Gideon, Eugena Gideon and
Izelle Ridgely are graduates of
Redmond Union High School
who took the teachers’ exam-
ination at Bend last month.
County superintendent J.
Alton Thompson reports that,
while the examination was un-
usually hard, only one teacher
in the county failed to pass out
all of those examined and sev-
eral made grades of above 90
in all but two subjects.
75 YEARS AGO
August 7, 1947 — Co-op
purchases potato warehouse
Deschutes farmers co-op, lo-
cal organization affiliated with
Pacific Supply cooperative,
has purchased all facilities of
Deschutes Potato Warehouse
Company. It was announced

The warehouse, 90 x 250-
feet in size, was constructed
about three years ago by the
Weigand brothers, Kenneth
Duling and Frank McCaffery.
Included with the sale of the
warehouse was a tract of land
owned by the company.
The warehouse will be con-
verted into a modern potato
packaging and grading plan,
in addition to storage, said

installed and the facilities will
be ready for the 1947 potato
harvest. Deschutes Farmers
Co-op is taking immediate
possession.
Acquisition of the ware-
house will give the farmers
co-op more trackage, in-
creased space for handling
and storing potatoes and the
advantages of trackable oper-
ation, it was pointed out. The
co-op will handle all potatoes
through a pool marketing pro-
gram this fall, Farrell said.

June 1.
All five voting precincts
except Cloverdale approved
the budget, reduced by over
$100,000 since the last elec-
tion. Terrebonne, which tra-
ditionally has cast negative
votes, came through with a tie
vote.
