Local runners excel in Dirty Half
PET OF THE WEEK
Meet Rhoda!
This beautiful girl
is here at BrightSide
waiting for her forever
home.
Rhoda is a ten-year-
old, long-haired love
bug who came from
a home with other
kitties so we believe
she will do well with
others.
In the shelter,
Rhoda has been fairly
reserved and shy —
but with a little pa-
tience she will warm
up.
If you would like to
meet Rhoda, come to
BrightSide.
Central Oregon runners
dominated the Dirty Half
Marathon, staged June 11 on
a dirt-trail loop near Phil’s
Trailhead west of Bend.
Bend’s Max King
won the 13.1-mile
men’s race in 1 hour,
17 minutes, 31 sec-
onds, boasting a
5:53-per-mile pace.
Chase Parnell, also
of Bend, finished
King
second in 1:22:53,
and Redmond’s
Evan Moreau took third in
1:23:29.
Bend’s Renee Metivier
won the women’s competi-
tion and was fourth overall
with a time of 1:24:13, clock-

of the week
Answers on A4
our fourth “Chuck of the Week” is arnold, who was
photographed recently by Janette mauer, near the
american Legion Community park in Redmond. mauer
said arnold was “patiently waiting for the sun to come out,”
perhaps to watch some baseball on the nearby fields.
