Why all the focus on skin cancer?
Central Oregon has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.
1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Skin cancer is
preventable and treatable when detected early and we help our patients
with both.
I live in Central Oregon for the outdoors. How can I avoid skin cancer?
Many of us live here because we love recreating in the beautiful outdoors.
Our mission is to help you balance life while staying healthy. You don’t need
to avoid the outdoors - but do protect yourself by avoiding mid-day sun and
covering up with long sleeves, hats and sunglasses and using sunscreen on
exposed skin. And get your skin examined by a professional!
How often should I have my skin checked?
Annual skin exams by a professional are recommended, however, if you are
at higher risk or have had skin cancer, exams can be warranted every few
months. We offer skin exams to all our patients, as we find skin cancer that
patients didn’t know they had.
Other than skin cancer prevention and detection, why is a dermatology visit
important?
Many skin, nail and hair conditions affect a person’s quality of life and can
indicate other health issues. Our providers are experienced in treating acne,
inflammatory skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, rosacea) and numerous
other skin/hair/nail conditions, with a focus on improving patient health.
