Assistance League provides clothing to 1,200 students
From a press release
REDMOND — Through their Operation
School Bell program, Assistance League of Bend
is providing new clothing to 1,200 students in
kindergarten through grade 12.
This second Walmart shopping campaign
of 2021 is scheduled for Thursday and Friday
in Redmond. The students will shop for new
school clothes using a $50 voucher provided by
Assistance League of Bend and distributed by
the Family Access Network advocates at each
school.
Assistance League of Bend has modified the
shopping events to help keep the students and
volunteers safe and they are excited to be able to
support students in person once again.
Assistance League of Bend continues to see
a rising need to provide local children with ba-
sic clothing items, according to a press release.
In addition to meeting essential clothing needs,
The local
Assistance
League is
holding a
shopping
event for
students
Thursday and
Friday in Red-
mond.
About Assistance League
Assistance League of Bend is an all-volunteer,
501©(3) nonprofit organization making a dif-
ference in the lives of children and adults facing
hardships like poverty, homelessness and cancer
in Deschutes County. Please visit their website
www.assistanceleague.org/bend for details.
Assistance League of Bend has found that stu-
dents who have new clothes feel more confident,
have better attendance, and are less likely to be
bullied.
Children with better self-esteem are more
likely to complete their education, breaking the
cycle of poverty.

Deschutes County Fair Board members
agreed Thursday to move forward with plans
for the fair after it was canceled due to the pan-
demic last year. The board also put its support
behind Geoff Hinds, director of the Deschutes
County Fair & Expo Center, as he organizes the
event.
The board’s decision will be sent to the De-
schutes County Commission to formally ap-
prove having a fair this summer.

State fairs are making a comeback in 2021 across the
West, though they may look a bit different than in years
past.
The California State Fair has been postponed for at
least two months as the state continues to use the fair-
grounds in Sacramento as a COVID-19 vaccination site.
Planning for Oregon’s state fair is underway — subject
to COVID-19 guidelines released by the state.
