DIRECTORY The farmer man who has potatoes now to sell can get good money for them—but they are a scarce article—and then* you are. The “Get Together” spirit in Redmond is becoming more ap parent every day. That is the only way to build up a city and the surrounding country. Commercial men who make this part of the state say they find all classes of business picking up, and the indications point to a large trade for the fall and winter. It will soon be time when the county fair managers will send out a four-bit complimentary ticket to their show and expect at least $12 worth of free advertising in return. Portland has a new order—the order of Muts. We always thought a mut was a dog. but it seems the name has been trans ferred from the four-legged animal to the two-legged men now. Redmond is noted among commercial men as being one of the best towns in Central Oregon to sell goods in. This is an object lesson. Commercial men are barometers of the condition of trade. Representative Latferty, in order to give publicity to his views and try to square himself is putting a lot of good money in the coffers of the Oregonian by publishing his dope and his picture in that paper. The people of Redmond may not be very wealthy individually, but 90 per cent of them use all the comforts that public utilities can give, such as city water right in their homes, and electricity for lighting and cooking. A nice big green lawn looks mighty good and appeals to the eye, but when you come right down to brass tacks, it is an expen sive luxury. The writer has one of these nice big green lawns and can vouch for the truth of the above. No one can help but have sympathy for the farmers in Sher man county, who lost their crops by hail Sundhy night, and the people in this section should feel thankful that they are living in a section where severe crop destroying storms are unknown. No need to send out of Redmond for any of your job print ing. The Spokesman has the best equipped office in Central Ore gon for handling all kinds of work, and the prices are always con sistent with the high-grade of work turned out by the office. The person who wastes irrigation water needlessly should be severely censured. Too many people do not pay enough attention to this matter and not only work a hardship on the irrigation company, but on others whom their carelessness discommodes. This was made possible by having a suit able corral here where the sheep men could bring their sheep and have facilities for shearing them. The men who put up the money for this corral are M. A. Lynch and A. G. Allingham of this city, and H. F. Jones of Portland, but formerly of Redmond. Book of instruction free. M ET AM * FOR SALE FARM MACHINERY USED IlY OREGON A G K K U . In many sections, much more thickly populated than this, the people are forced lo put up with an every other day, tri-weekly or mixed train service, while Redmond and this section has four passenger trains daily and daily freight trains. Indeed, we are among the favored when it comes to railroad facilities. O re g o n Anderson Bros.’ Saw Mil State lo the L.
