Like a good many words in English. "TUM-A-LUM" is derived from a great many languages. Originally from the Chinook Indian, meaning “ Scattered Waters,” “ T l ’ M -A -Ll’ M” has come to mean: In In In In In French— “ To Excell.” Dutch— "Handling the Best o f tirades.” Herman— “ Service.” Irish— “ Quality.” Spanish— “ The Best for the Money.” Fut all o f the above meanings together and you have the mean ing of “ T l'M -A -L l'M ” in English. But in the language o f Redmond. ‘T l ’ M -A -L l’ M" stands for the most up-to-date lumber yard in the city. Concilmen Reedy. De Souza. Atkin son and Immele. Meeting called to order by Mayor Hosch. Councilman Immele acted as Recorder. Minutes of last meeting read and approved. Munz for the sum o f $15.45 was referred to the Water Committee. On motion the bill of A. Munz for the sum of $21.65 was referred to the Finance Committee. Moved and seconded that the bill o f the Neptune Meter Company be referred to the Water Committee for checking. Moved and seconded that the bon I o f Alfred Munz for plumbing be ap proved. Report o f City Attorney Wilcox on telephone franchise read and placed on file. Moved and seconded that the Ordi nance Committee refer all recommen dations o f the City Attorney and all such additional clauses as to comply with the state law to the Deschutes Mutual Telephone Company for the drafting o f a new franchise .to be presented at the next regular meet ing of council. Ordinance No. 36, being an ordi nance providing for sidewalk space, the location o f sidewalks therein, the planting o f shade trees thereon, and the removal of weeds therefrom, read In full. Moved and seconded that when the Redmond Townsite Company actual ly gives the city the concessions as represented by It. that is. the boule vard and the deed to the jail lot. the ' city will vacate the streets and alleys prayed for. Be It resolved by the Common Council o f the City of Redmond that the minimum water rate be $1.25 for 300 cubic feet; all In excess o f 300 cubic feet. 30 cents per 100 cubic feet. That wherever water is carried the owner o f the hydrant shall be charged an additional minimum rate for each individual carrying from his hydrant. Every residence, or busi ness house, other than office, using water shall be connected by meter. All parties carrying water must make proper connections with city mains within three months time, or cease using city water. Meters to be read the first of April, 1914, and on the 25th day o f each month there after. City Recorder to collect mini mum in advance, excess reading to be added to minimum for succeed ing month. The City Marshal shall read the meters. Matter o f sprinkling the streets for the ensuing season referred to the Street and Alley Committee Matter of grading streets referred back to the Street and Alley Commit tee for further action. The quest'on of Installing a new pump at the pumping plant was thoroughly discussed by the council with the representative o f the Fair banks Morse Company.
