loway's decision be upheld by the
Supreme Court. It will mean that all
local option elections held on No­

The Hay Creek ranch In Crook
county, comprising 25.000 acres,
has been bought from the Baldwin
Sheep & I«ind Co. for a considera­
tion approximating
$500.000 by
Judge John L. Twohy. Emery Olin­
stead and L. B. Menefee. directors of
the Northwestern National Bank,
and James B. Kerr o f the legal firm
of Carey A Kerr.
The ranch will
continue to be operated under the
company name.
There are now more than 20.000
sheep on the ranch, valued at $100,-
000. This number will be Increased
and cattle and hogs will
also be
raised.
The purchasers have no Intention
of cultivating the land, except to
raise fodder for the stock.

Twenty-five farmers o f Central Or­
egon have been given packets o f dry
land alfalfa seed sufficient to plant
one acre, the officials of the Oregon
Trunk railway seeking to demon­
strate the possibilities o f this partic­
ular kind of seed To get a thorough
teat, each of the farmer» given seed
has promised to report the results.
Five farmers from the vicinity o f
each of the towns of Madras. Metol-
lus. Culver. Redmond and Bend have
agreed to try the experiment so that
comparisons of the different sections
may be made.
