Over 20 auto loads, containing
from five to nine persons each, left
Redmond last Thursday morning for
the county fair at Prlnevllle to take
part In the exercises of the fair on
that day—"Redmond Day." Besides
the above number there were many
carriage and wagon loads front this
section. A conservative estimate
placed the number of Redmond
people visiting the fair on the above
date at 150.
The Reiliuond delegation had ban
ners on all their cars and each In
dividual was tagged with a triangle
cardboard bearing the words "Me for
the Redmond Potato Show. October
23. 24. 26." The folks were doing
a little boosting for the event that
la to be held here on the above
dates.
That the Redmond "bunch" en
joyed themselves goes without say
ing for they were out for a good time
and had It. aa far as the facilities of
Prlnevllle could afford. They were
not presented wita the keys to the
city, but managed, nevertheless, to
get all that was coming to them.
The band music furnished by
members of the Redmond band and
musicians from bands at Bend, Prlne
vllle and Sisters, was one of the fea
tures of the day and was much ap
preciated.
Over In the l^imonta district rab
bits have been such a pest the past
season that the farmers are going to
take means to exterminate as many
of them as they possibly can. To do
this they have arranged for a big
rabbit drive for Sunday, October 12.
and all the people In Crook county
are Invited to be present and take
part In the program.
W. M. Floyd, who has charge of
the drive, was In Redmond recently
and stated the drive would start
about 10:30 a. n».. and all who are
going to participate In the event are
requested to meet at Joe Wagner’s
place at 10 o’clock. Only a limited
number of shotguns will be allowed
to be used, the object being to drive
the rabbits Into a corral and kill
them there, this being deemed the
best way to kill a large number of
them.
Farmers in the Lamonta district
state that If the rabbits are not ex
terminated. or considerably lessened
In numbers this year, there will be
no use of putting In a crop next year,
as the pests will surely ruin it before
It has lime to ripen and can be har
vested.
Large rabbit drives have proven
succesful In exterminating rabbits In

discovered at
Mount Tabor Park, in
Portland,
several weeks ago by Foreman T
Tanr.a. In charge of construction
work now under way In the park,
says the Portland Journal. As a re
sult of the assay It Is probable that
guards will be placed around the
spot where the gold was discovered
until the full extent of the pocket or
lode or what It may be is deter
mined.
The gold was discovered when
workmen In the roadway through
the park struck some sand and
gravel. In digging through this an
amount of yellowish substance was
uncovered and when seen by the
workmen, all made a dive for It.
Foreman Tanna Immediately gath
ered up a quantity of the substance
and took It to the City Hall for In
spection by Park Superintendent
Mtache.
Superintendent Mtsche was rather
dubious that the metal was gold, as
claimed by Tanna, who had spent
several years gold prospecting.
Finally It was agreed that the
metal would be assayed and If It
was found to he gold Mr. Mlsohe
would pay the cost of assaying, while
if not gold Tanna was to pay the
