That Oregon pears are meeting
with an enthusiastic welcome in the
eastern markets la indicated by the
sale o f IS cars o f Rogue River Bart-
letta at the beat price received since
1 111 |3 per box. F t < H Medford
Probably the highest price ever re
ceived for pears In quantity was that
paid to a Medford grow er in 1910,
when a carload o f An Joy pears
brought a total o f 32.328 20 to the
grower, being live cents each for all
the pears In the car.
and In this shipment only the finest
selected Elbertas w ill be used W hile
the regulation boxes will be used,
the layers o f fruit w ill be separated
by a cushion of wood Obre as a pro
tection against rough handling and
possible damage I f this trial ship
ment proves a success. It Is probable
that an extensive business In peaches
will be developed by Pacific N orth
west fruit exchanges.
It is lik ely
that the opening
of
the Panama
canal w ill result in increased move
ment o f the softer varieties o f fruit,
as they esn then be shipped direct
with a consequent saving in time.
