The party went from here to Hend and from there to the east end of the county, circled over llurk mountain and came back thru Paulina and Post, and then down the Crooked river road to Prlnevllle and Kedmond. Front Kedmond they went to Sisters and up to the MrKenile Pass, thence back to Kedmond by the way of Cline Falla. I.aldlaw and Deschutes. The trip covered about 400 miles. A meeting was held here Tuesday afternoon and the conclusion was reached that It would be necessary to have an engineer go over the route above »ml give estimates of cost of Improving the roads. The meeting naked the county court to request H. I.. Kowlby, state highway engineer, to cotne here and go over the roads for the purpose of making an estimate of the probable rust of putting the rondn In good condition. The meeting also took up (he matter of placing sign hoards at crossings of all roads In the county and having culverts built over Irri gating ditches. While on the trip It was found that a number of the roads could he Improved by making some slight and Inexpensive changes. The following dispatch from The Dalles under date of June 1, shows that Oregon’s spectacular governor Is again In the limelight: IJovernor West arrived here today with Major Smith and 11 state mili tiamen from Portland and compelled Sheriff Chrtamun to Imprison 32 wo men who had been arrested In a raid made last night by special agents of the governor. The sheriff last night had refused to recognlie the authority of the ar resting officers, but after being Inter viewed by the governor today prom ised to comply wtth his orders. When Fred \V. HutU t . local attorneys attempted to see the prisoners this morning their guards refused per mission and when an effort was made to gain admission by force one of the attendants, a Negro, drew a revolver and threatened to shoot un less the attorneys withdrew.
