As Bend has a number of good play- era among her business men. and Redmond also, the game Is expected to be one of the moat Interesting so far pulled off here this season. It Is understood that Hugh O’ Kune, the heavy weight landlord of the Hotel Bend, will be one of the umpires. Redmond will be entitled to choose hn umpire to hold their end down with O’ Kane, hut Juat who It will he haa not yet been decided upon ns yet. As Bend is a great town to pull for everything they start out to ac complish. It is expected a large dele gation of fans and rootra from there will arrive In Redmond on the morn ing train and begin rooting for their, home team the moment the locomo tive whistles for the Redmond sem aphore. And right here, don't for get for a minute that Redmond haa some rooters who are always there with the goods, and will give the Bend funs a run for their money. The various committees are work ing out the plans for the different events, and from the number of good attractions that can be put on tt looks as If a two days' celebration would be necessary In order to take rare of all these sports and attrac tions. Rut at thla early stage the publicity committee is not definitely advertising a two days’ celebration Redmond haa never had a 4th of July celebration. She has had Pota to Shows. Poultry Shows, etc., and It is the purpose to make this, the Initial 4th of July celebration, one that will lay over any ever given in Central Oregon. Kedmopd haa the reputation of doing things, and doing them right, and the coming celebration will be no exception to this rule. The sports committee is busy get ting up a line of attractions that will be Interesting and appeal to the peo ple who come here to celebrate. One of the Interesting events in this class will be the hose races In which It is expected Bend. Prlnevllle and Mad ras will participate. These cBlea have good fire departments and can send running teams that will make creditable showings. A good compet itive hose race is always Interesting to spectators. Another feature will be the base ball games. Everybody is interested in base ball, and the committee is trying to arrange for games that will be worth seeing. Redmond invites all of Central Oregon to come here and help make the eagle scream, assuring them one of the times of their life. Plenty of accommodations will be provided for all. and the freedom of the city will be turned over to the visitors. Tell your friend and neighbor that Redmond is going to have a record breaker 4th of July celebration this year, and do not fall to be on hand yourself the morning of the 4th to help along in the festivities. G RO W IN G I.A W N S There are a number of Redmond people trying to raise lawns this season. Some of the lawns have been very backward, but at least two parties had quick returns. The seed germinated and the ground became green rapidly, and the growers were congratulating themselves on their lawns. As time passed, however, instead of clover and blue grant the green lawns developed an abundant crop of lambs quarter, and the own ers now talk of propagating It for greens for the Portland markets and let someone else raise lawns.
