This water system has cost the city In the neighborhood o f 140.000. The contract price was $37.820, and engineering and other expenses has brought the total up to about $40,- 000. Twenty year. 7 per cent bonds were issued to pay for the plant. The city made a 5 per cent levy to take care o f the Interest on the bonds. Redmond now has one of the best municipal ow ned water systems In the state. The water Is taken from the Deschutes river and carried a mile to a large reservoir on top of Forked Horn Butte. 2 miles south of the city. There are 36 Are hydrants In the city, and mains have been laid so that all parts o f the city can be easily supplied with water for do mestic purposes. A recent test of the water shows It to be practically pure. The reservoir will hold water enough for a city o f 10,000, and the Are pressure Is above that required by the hoard o f fire Insurance under writers. IX REDMOND KOR FA C TO R Y O P A B O V E K I XD — POTATOES H E R E M AKE TH E B E S T KI NI » O P C H IP S When arrangements were being made last fall for holding the Sec ond Annual Potato Show here the advertising com mittee for the Show- put over a good stunt that directed the attention of people all over the state to Redmond, her Potato Show, and the potatoes grown In this sec tion. The committee had 500 boxes o f Saratoga Chips made from potatoes grown In the Redm ond District, and these boxes o f chips were distributed free on trains running out o f Port land and Spokane and comin g Into this section. The chips were o f the finest quality and demonstrated that the Redm ond District potatoes were all to the good for making a product o f this kind. Since the Potato Show the ques tion o f putting In a Saratoga Chip factory here has been agitated by a number o f Redm ond men who see where such a proposition would be a g ood thing for the city and country, and eventually become a paying In dustry. It Is pointed out that with the large acreage o f potatoes grown here the product could be manufac tured Into chips at small coat. Though the project la still In crude form the promoters have not given It up, and In the near future It Is ex the Copy your letters with manifold pected some definite steps will be taken in the matter. pa per— at The Spokesman. The auction sale o f stock and dif ferent kinds o f goods held by the Redm ond Cnton Warehouse Co. at their warehouse here last Saturday was well attended and a large num ber of sales made. Owing to the fact that the sale was the first one held by the company and the time o f ad vertising not sufficient to reach to all parta o f the county, some sections were not represented as they would have been had they known o f the event. The warehouse people are making plans to hold a monthly sale here in the future, and advise farmers and others If they have anything to sell al auction lo list same with the wkrehous«' manager. It Is the Inten tion to eventually work these sales Into stock sales as well as sales for the disposal o f goods. It Is stated by knowing ones that a good horse sale once a month, or every other month, would be the means o f bring ing" In a large number of buyers and at the same time be the means o f an outlet for farmers who have good horses for sale. The next sale will be advertised far enough ahead so that all parts of the county and other sections can be reached, and a large attendance Is expected.
