H a r v e s t i n g and M a r k e t in g Potatoes With the large acreage of pota toes this year It seems very necess ary that we give careful attention to the most economical and efficient methods of harvesting, grading, storing and marketing. It seem* Imperative that we should make an organised effort to put # h ig h grade product and secure a special market If the crop Is to be fully successful. Harvesting Potatoes should not be harvested until mature, and Irrigated potatoes should be allowed about 50 days to mature In dry soil. It is a good plan to leave them In the soil as long as ran be safely done without danger of freeling or heavy rains. In the larger Aelds the potato har vester can be used to good advan tage where reasonably free from stone. The 4-horse digger Is a good type for large Aelds. Where several acres are to be dug. a shaker digger with two-wheel forecarriage Is Inex pensive and fairly good. Thorough harrowing and close picking Is Im portant to avoid volunteering later, The different committee* having road matters In charge reported pro gress and were Instructed to keep at the good work and push It to com pletion. A. U. Allingham was admitted to membership. Arrangements are under way to secure the building again that the (•railing Club formerly used as a meeting The potatoes should lay on the place and exhibit room. H. A. Chappel of Fremont.
