R. TO GIVE SILVER CUP President Brewer of the Redmond Commercial Club, has received the following letter from F. W. Graham, Imniigtadon agent for the Great Northern railroad. In regard to the road he represents giving a silver cup at the Potato Show to be held here in October: Seattle. July 30. Mr. J. W. Brewer, Pres Commercial Club. Redmond. Oregon. My Dear Mr. Brewer: I think I can get our people to furnish a nice silver cup as a pre mium for your Potato Show, tf you would like to have it. I believe that I was the original instigator of the Redmond Potato Show, as. while there last year, the thought was sug gest«^ to ms by seeing some of your fine potatoes, and the potato talk I heard on all sides. I gave the two local editors an Interview along those lines, and suggested the mat ter of a potato show be agitated, which was done, and I understand It was quite a success, although got ten up on short notice, and that It la to be repeated this year and become an annual event. During the land shows where we made exhibits last year, at New York, Chicago. Omaha and St. Paul, we found that outside of apples there was no other one product that attracted so much attention as big potatoes. We had a table heaped with big potatoes, carded up. and a little ecale on which one long potato weighing 3 \ pounds rested. The people thought they were hollow, and we had to slice one of the large potatoes through the middle and leave It exposed to show that thsy were solid. There was always a big Continued on Pags T
