The Oregon Trunk railroad officials will hurry- the building of the road from the Crooked river bridge to this point, a distance of only eight miles, as fast as pos­ sible in order to take care of the colonist travel from the east that lx*gins September 15th. G. T. U. to that body ask­ ing that the undesirables o f the city and the residents o f the re­ stricted district be ordered to lea\e the town, and kept from returning. The petition was signed by about 150 business men o f the city, and women of the different churches and soci­ eties. The petition was voted on by the council, all members present voting for the measure. Those who voted were Councilmen F. M. White. J. F. Hosch. G. M. Huffman and M. A. Lynch. Councilman G. W. Wells was ab­ sent from the city. Councilman F. McCaffery, was in the city but did not attend the council meeting. Last Friday Policeman Z. T. McClav was ordered by the may­ or to enforce the mandate o f the council, and he visited the hous­ es in the restricted district and made known the action o f the council, ordering the keepers of houses to close up their places, ami the inmates to leave the city at once. Some o f the house keepers own their property, or have bought the same on the payment plan, and they were given time to make arrangements to settle up their affairs before leaving town. Policeman McClay gave the kee|>ers o f houses and women in­ mates notice that if he found them in any way violating the conditions o f the order o f the council he would arrest them. F. Jones. Some time ago the hotel was leased to a man by the name o f Parker, and he closed the dining room after conducting the hotel but a short time. Later he left town and forfeited his lease. Since then H. F. Jones has had numerous improvements made in the house, and it is now said the hotel ranks with the best in the state. The entire house has been ren­ ovated and improved, and the walls o f the kitchen covered with Sanitas wall covering, making it the best appointed kitchen out­ side of Portland. The sleeping accommodations are ample for all demands that will be made upon the house, there being over 40 rooms, all newly furnished. The house is J. EL Christian, the Prineville- Sisters stage man. has purchased Allen Wilcoxen’s seven-passen­ ger Speedwell and has put on an auto service between Prineville and Sisters. This will prove a big convenience to Redmond and way points. The auto leaves here at noon and makes Red­ mond by 2 o ’clock, arriving at Sisters at 4:20. Instead o f leav­ ing Sisters at 1 a. m.. (the raw- hide special time), the auto will leave at 6 a. m. and arrive in Prineville at 10 o ’clock. Mr. Wilcoxon will drive the car until Mr. Christian gets onto the hang o f the thing. U. D. McSherry who has been visiting here with his brother Roliert, left Monday for his home in Prescott, Wash., to accept a position in his father’s large mer­ cantile establishment. F. N. McFall o f Sisters, was here Tuesday on a business visit. Cigars de L uxe Linden Duthic was an arrival last week from Medford. He came to this section looking for land, and is well pleased with what he has seen. He stated that n number o f people from his section o f the state are coming into this section as soon as the railroad is completed to this lioint. ^ B. S. Larkin o f Madras, has opened a harness shop here in the building on E street between 6th and 7th streets, formerly occupi­ ed by the Pioneer Meat Market. He has placed E. W.
