Train service on the Oregon
Trunk Railway from the Colum
bia River to Metolius. 115 miles
south, will be possible by Febru
ary 1. 1911, as the track to that
point will be completed late in
January, says the Oregonian.
The grading through Madras,
which is 6 miles north of Metolius

grading is ready and the ties
have Isvn delivered. The work
between Metolius and Bend is
progressing under the contract of
H. C. Henry.
At present the
contractors are rushing the work
to Metolius. As fast as the var
ious sections o f track are comple
ted the force «if men is reduced.
Although the work o f impov-
ing the company’s property at
Metolius has not yet been started,
preparations are being made to
make that place the terminal
point o f the new line. Shops like
ly will be built there eventually.
Ample yard fa«*ilities have been
provided as the company has pur
chased 100 acres of land which
can be converted to this use.
Engineers have completed the
survey of a number o f parallel
tracks through the proposed
Metolius yards. These will be
built as soon as the tracks are laid
up to that point. and they become
needed for handling the business.
Although at present it is noth
ing more than a dot on the blue
print o f the new road, Matolius
promises to become one of the
most important towns in Central
Oregon, even rivaling Bend, the
ultimate terminus o f the Oregon
Trunk. It has been announced
that whatever improvements the
company makes, such aa terminal
yards and shops, will be made at
Matolius.
A number of other towns are
taking form between the river
and the present terminus. Mad
ras is one o f the largest o f these.
At present these places are de
signated merely by the respect
ive mileposts nearest them.
Some of the settlements are not
yet large enough or lack the nec-
cessary permanency to hear the
dignity of a name.

WHEN YOU SEE IT IN OUR AD IT’S SO
The mission of our advertisements is to tell you our store news.
It is an
economical method by which we can talk to ALL the people at once.
How
ever, our advertising will not be effective, will not bring visitors and cus
tomers to the store, unless it is believed.
Therefore, as a sensible business proposition, it behooves us to state only
the truth about our store and merchandise.
In adhering to this principle, we have a right to expect that our printed
announcements will be believed— believed implicitly— and we promise you
here never to publish an untruth, no matter how great the temptation may
be for us to meet the advertisements of other stores.

Last Saturday, the day adver
tised for the opening o f Ehret
Bros, in their new brick store on
north Sixth street, witnessed a
large crowd gathered there to
help dedicate the largest depart
ment store in Central Oregon, in
its new* quarters.
The store was tastily decorated
for the occasion and the large
stock o f goods displayed to the
best advantage for the buying
public. This store is 50x75 feet,
and is filled with everything a
customer could desire from the
smallest purchase to the largest
in the general merchandise and
department store line.
From a small beginning in a
store on the corner o f Sixth and
