Trunk Railway from the Colum

ary 1. 1911, as the track to that
point will be completed late in
January, says the Oregonian.
The grading through Madras,
which is 6 miles north of Metolius
has already been completed and
the contractors are laying the rails
at the rate of one mile and a half
a day. The rail service now is
completed more than 30 miles

tracks through the proposed
Metolius yards. These will be
built as soon as the tracks are laid
up to that point. and they become
needed for handling the business.
Although at present it is noth
ing more than a dot on the blue
print o f the new road, Matolius
promises to become one of the
most important towns in Central
Oregon, even rivaling Bend, the
ultimate terminus o f the Oregon
Trunk. It has been announced
that whatever improvements the
company makes, such aa terminal
yards and shops, will be made at
Matolius.
A number of other towns are
taking form between the river
and the present terminus. Mad
ras is one o f the largest o f these.
At present these places are de
signated merely by the respect
ive mileposts nearest them.
Some of the settlements are not
yet large enough or lack the nec-
cessary permanency to hear the
dignity of a name.
