in to th e ta ilo r shop in London and pie-
-ented his le tte r of in troduction. He
got a w arm h andshake from the tailor,
who said he had received a le tte r from
his b ro th e r telling him of the tra v e le r’s
expected arrival, but could not u n d e r­
stand p a rt of the letter. T he letter,
when prod peed, read:
‘‘Dear B rother: The b earer, Mr ----- ,
is from o u r place and w islu a to g et a
lot of clothes in London. lie has all
sort . f money. Soak him . Y ours a f­
fectionately.”
The j,a rt of the letter th a t could not
be understood was the concluding
phrase. The traveler.of course u n d e r­
stood the Am ericanism , but m anaged
to keep his face stra ig h t w hile he gave
,it a fayproble construction, lie saved
,the laugh until he copld have it on his
Am erican friend.

and local p a ck e rs im m ediately took
it up.
How often it is th a t a cook will break
