Christmas Pie
From the Boston Herald
For those constructing pies for
Christmas we recommend the recipe
of a Christmas pie sent in 1777 to an
ancestor of the present Earl Grey;
two bushels cf flour. 20 pounds but
ter, four geese, two turkeys, two
rabbits, four wild ducks, two wood
cock, eix snipes, four partridges, two
neat’s tongues, two curlews, seven
blackbirds, six pigeons. The pie was
nine feet in circumference at the bot
tom; it weighed about 200 pounds
and «as wheeled about by two men.
Just the thing fcr a family gather-
ing.

We wish to call to the attention of our patrons in the
Arleta-Mount Scott district the early inaugur£ion of ma
chine switching service from our exchange At Seventy-
first street and Fifty-first avenue Southeast. With the
issue of the next directory in January this exchange will
be called Sunset and subscribers having dial sets will dial
all numbers desired both machine switching and manual.
Representatives of the company are now visiting all sub
scribers served from this office and demonstrating the
method of ojieration under the new six-digit system. The
date for the change is January 27,1923. We request from
our patrons their close attention to the demonstration
offered in order that everyone may thoroughly under
stand the matter and be able to secure an efficient and
satisfactory service over the new equipment.
When the new directory is delivered about January
18 it should not I* used until the effective date, that is,
January 27, and thereafter it should lie used exclusively.
Unless this plan is carefully observed there will be con
fusion and delay in your service.
