soda, H cup raisins, choped or cut fine
with shears, t'i cups flour. Stir well
and bake about 30 minutes or a little
longer.

One-quarter cup of butter, one cup
sugar. H cup milk, one and two-thirds
cup« of pastry flour, H teaspoon of
saleratus, one teaspoon cream of tar­
tar. Sift flour, salaratus and cream
of tartar together three or four times.
Cream butter, adding sugar gradual­
ly. Then add milk and flour alter­
nately. Beat well and bake in layers.
When ready to serve, put together
with currant jelly and sift fine sugar
over the top.

Take a half pound of puff pastry,
six ounce of currants, half teaspooa-
ful of mixed «pices, three ounces of
sugar and half an ounce of butter.
Divide the pastry into 12 even rounds
the size of a small sauce dish; mix
currants, sugar and spices together;
put a dessert spoonful on each round
of pastry, a small piece of butter, a
few drops of water, moisten edges,
draw together over top, flatten a lit­
tle with the hand, noil very slightly;
then place on a flat tin. Make three
rate on top with a sharp knife, brash
over with egg; bake about 25 minutes.
