A very enjoyable affair took place
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. P.

riage of Rev. Fred J. and Marietta
Cope, pastor, and wife, of th« Friends
«hunch, Lents. They, with their old-
time friends, Emmon W. and Mm.
Hall -at Sunnyside, and Mr. anil Mrs.
Alvin Thomas were invited to lake
4 o'clock dinner and epend the eve
ning with the Hracocks.
About 8 o’clock they were com-
pletely surprised by 28 more of their
friends coming In to congratulate and
wish them many more happy returns
of tha day. A hymn waa sung, an
-original poem, composed for the oc
casion. was read by Mrs. Heaeock,
another hymn, a speech by Rev. Mrs.
Ward (known years ago in Ohio).
Mrs. Ward said that as all preachers
were auppoeed to take a text when
the> spoke, she would take for this
time, “Behold! bow they loved one
another.” She spoke very beautifully
of their past and said, “as wo had
seen them since they had l>een among
tia. so they had been all along their
Journey together.’’
Mm. Tamplin gave an amusing talk
ami read an original parody on one
of Riley’s poems to fit the occasion.
Mildred Hencock gave a comical
reading which waa much enjoyed.
Rev. Chester Hadley, ¡»aster of
First Friends church, Sunnyaide, gave
some interesting reminiscences of
years ago. Then followed a very flt-
ting prayer .by Miss Spann of Pled-
tuont Evangelistic Institute.
Rev. Cope responded in a very ap-
preciative way, for the good things
that had been done for and said about
them. Refreshments were served and
the company dispersed at a late
hour which had flown all too soon,
but will linger long in our memories.
