At the Fourth United Brethren church next Sunday morning there will be an Easter program under the auspices of the Sunday school, chair maned by the superintendent. In the evening there will be a program by the Christian Endeavor, of which Al fred Frey, president of the Endeavor, will hav«- charge. The dance given by the Myrtle club of the Lents grange Monday evening was a mo»t enjoyable affair. They will give another dance on Monday evening, April 28. Sergeant Harry M. Burnham spent a 15-day furlough in Lents, and to his surprise saw his picture at the People» theater commanding a bal loon company for some official ex hibition at Arcadia balloon school. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Tillman, 6221 Ninetieth street, entertained Lyme Tillman ami wife, of Portland, and Miss Evelyn Carnes, of Sixty-third street, at dinner Thur day, April 10, in honor of Clarence Tillman’s birth day. At 7 p. m. next Sunday the Ep worth Ix-ague will be led by Edwin Norene, lately returned from France. About 40 members and officers of the various Artisan assembly» of the city attended the mreting of the Lents Artisans Wednesday evening and put on the degree work. Six new members were initiated. They were treated to a very fine banquet ami the rest of the evening was spent in a social way. Ix:nts grange met Saturday, April 12, with an unusually large attend- *ance. The third and fourth degree work was put on in the iporning and the drill team did especially good work. Dinner was served at noon and a very interesting program was given in th«- afternoon under th- di rection of the lecturer, Miss Myrtle McNeil. A stork shower was given Mrs. P. A. Bristow, of 1204 East Harrison street, last Wednesday. She was the recipient of many beautiful and use ful presents. Ladies from Lents at tending were Mrs. A. E. Eggiman, Mrs. John Eggiman, Mrs. McNeil, Mrs. J. C. Bristow and Mrs. Erlieh. Other ladies from the Hawthorne district were Mrs. Dan Green, Mra. R. Dye, Mrs. Geo. Green, Miss Leona Frye and Mrs. Wm. Eggiman. Ed Boyd, of the Lents Mercantile company, brought to the Herald of fice two gold coin potatoes, each weighing 3H pounds. When cut into two equal parts the hollow in them made the hole in a doughnut look like 30 cents. The potatoes were grown in Idaho by Mrs. Viola Marks formerly a clerk for the company. M rs. Marks should experiment in filling the inside of the potato, and if successful the spuds ought to aver age about nine pounds each and sure ly would be a fortune for her.
