L. Edwards at Firwood Acre», ' some twelve mile» «luthwest of Port-' land, was the acene of a very happy affair Sunday afternoon, when about twenty friend» of tbe family enjoved the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs Ed warda. With well rttiert lunch baskets a number of tbe party want out on the morning train. A little later F. K. Crum and Fllton Shaw drove out with «utoe loaded to capacity with lunch i-xskets, musical instruments and the • larger number of tbe party. After dinner au enthusiastic com munity sing was held and au orchestra I of seven pieces rendered popular ioatru- > mental music, much to the delight of t the entire community. I Later lu the afternoon the party, the greater portion of which, attired in ■ bathing cueturue, went to Oswego Lake, i but a abort distance from tiie Edwards ■ home. The water of the lake was warm and the bathing was much enjoyed by the large crowd of onlookers at «ell as ■ by those in "the swim.” Tbe party returned to the city late in I the evening, having s;>ent a moat en- I joyable day and heartily accepting the I iovitatiou of Mr. aud Mrs. Edwarde to I make a return call at a not far dietant I time. Mr. Edwards la employed ferson^Higb School, and formerly re aided at Fifty-dftb Avenue and Sixty ninth Street, S. E. During hie vaca tion he baa been helping Uncle Sam win tbe war by juggling pig iron in the works at Oswego. He sa>s tbe rural life agrees with him immenselv, but he is also looking forward to the time when school will open, with a degree of satisfaction that he has done enough heavy work for some time. About a year ago the Edwards’ family move<l to Firwood Acre», where they have erected a beautiful home. Mr. E iwarda has made great inroad» upon tbe forestand baa a large portion of bls acreage under cultivation. Ilia crop looks exceptionally well (or such a dry aeaao □.
