Lent , where Mr. Drake has made
his hotne since the death of his com
panion on November 19, 1917, was held
Monday, May 20 at 2 p. m. from
the Friend. Church at Ix*nts, Rev.
Jasper of the M E. Church officiating,
assisted by the (i. A. R. and Circle.
Interment was in Multnomah Cemetery
in the family plot by the side of his
wife.
Mr. Drake was born in Tompkins
County, New York, May 8, I»28. When
a young mau he served his time as a
blacksmith’s apprentice, after which he
owned his own shop an 1 followed
hie trade until August, 1861 when he
enlisted in the United States service.
He was married twice, first to Miss
Euphia B. Lemon, in August. 1846. To
this union were born five children, Jas
N.. Cornelius S., Gideon G., Miles N.
and Lydia B. Drake, of whom only two
survive, Cornelius 8., of fonts, and

teen years ago thia fall, when be moved
to Ashland. Ore. Not being satisfied
there, he moved at once to Portland,
bought property in Lenta thirteen years
ago, and resided here until death called
him.

Mr. and Mrs. Drake united with the
Friends’ Church in Lenta. On AugustS,
1915, they celebrated their fiftierh wed
ding anniversary, which was a very
unique affair, and was attended by
their relatives and many friende here,
services being in the Friends’ Chusch.
Mr. Drake on the night before bia
death asked for the old familial hymn,
“Savior, More Than Life to Me,” and
tried to sing with the rest. His last
words were “My Savior forgives mv
shortcomings and I am ready to die.”
Mr. Drake was the only surviving one
of a large family and Ieoves three sons
to mourn his loss. Miles N. Drake of
Louisville, Neb., and Cornelius S. and
Clayton B. Drake, of Lente, Ore., and
many grandchildren.
