We don’t know much about Josiah Gilbert Holland, but we do kr.ow that he is the author of a grand little poem called “Wanted” which runs something like this: •*G< d ?ive us men! A time like thi- demanda Stroi _■ litxls, great hearts, true fait! and ready li.ii:'!-. Men whom the lust for office does not kill. Men wbmn the spoils ot office cannot buy. Wrong rules the land, and waiting jus tice steeps. The age wants heroes—heroes who shall dare To struggle ir. the solid ranks of truth. To clutch the monster Error by the throat, To t>ear opinion to a loftier seat. To blot the era of oppression out And lead a universal freedom in.” It is so applicable to present day needs, particularly to national affairs that we can’t help believing that it pretty much sums up the qualifications of the men we need as United States Senators and Congress- men at least. There are many candidates who have announced themselves for these vacant posi tions but viewed in the light of this demand they, most of them, Beem very puny. We believe there is one man, however, who in the eyes of the average humble Oregonian measures up magnificently to the ideal, and while we shall have to apologize to another candidate for ap propriating his slogan, we be lieve this candidate can aptly be termed “Your Kind of a Man.” He has announced his candidacy for the office of United States Senator on the Democratic ticket—it is a foregone conclusion that he will receive the nomina tion. There is every likelihood that the Republican nominee who will be his opponent will be R. N. Stanfield. His name, of course, is Oswald West, a house hold word irfOregon and we be lieve it will soon be a name to be very much respected in the United States Senate.
