The impossibility of opposing a fire of that magnitude with the ap paratus at hand is apparent to anyone who has ever seen con ditions as they exist when an east wind of this section of the country is blowing. Had half the homes in the western sec tion of Gresham gone the same way there would have been no cause to wonder. But this fire will ultimately prove a blessing to the town.
