Women- Favor Progress
Jackson county women, working
with the home demonstration agent,
have made 80 dres forms at a sav
ing, of $800 over the commercial cost.
They also helped in making their own
fircless cookers, iceless refrigerators
and home dryers. Eighty-two of
them, with the help of the agent, are
keeping household accounts, thereby
have put. hot lunches into ten schools
and have themselves "gone to school"
to the number of 60, and havo learned
millinery and dressmaking. In all,
674 families have studied foods and

The following is submitted
county Farm Aeent Breithaup:
One of the steps looking toward
'crop improvement taken by V. T.
Herrett, chairman of the Vale Farm
'Bureau, is the importation of a con
(siderable quantity of certified Dick
low Spring Wheat seed which he will
plant on his farm near Vale, ihis
wheat was secured from the Jerome
County Bureau in Idaho and cost Mr.
Herrett a fancy price, though he
says that will be taken care of in
Increased yield and the premium
which he should get for his seed
wheat next : season.
The Dicklow wheat is recognized
by all experiment stations and ex
perienced wheat farmers as the lead
ing variety in point of yield for the
irrigated lands of the Snake river
valley. It is' a true spring wheat
with white berries and is beardless.
The head is of square construction,
enlarging toward the top. Owing
to its hybrid origin, the variety re
verts rapidly unless kept true by se
lection. This work requires some
care, so that we must always expect
to get good Dicklow seed only from
reliadle growers, particularly such
as has been certified by the state. A
great deal of dissatisfaction has
arisen from the purchase of so-called
Dicklow wheat, a great deal of which
is either not Dicklow at all or so
badly mized and runout that it might
as well be called anything else, ex
cept for the selling value of the
name. Dicklow wheat is scarcely
obtainable at the present time.

Methods of poisoning rabbits in
summer have been used successfully
in other counties of the state and will
undoubtedly be of interest and bene
fit to persons in this county in the
outlyina districts, according to County
Farm Agent, L. R. Breithaup, who
submits the following formulae:
Salted Poisoned Stakes
These are prepared by boiling the
top five cr six inches of soft pine
stakes an inch square and a foot
long in u solution of one ounce oi
strychnine sulphate in six quarts of
water, adding as much salt as will
be dissolved in the water after the
strychnine is dissolved. Drive the
stakes in the ground along trails or
other pluc2s frequented by rabbits.
The stake i should be boil -J for r
couple of hours in the solution and
then allowed to dry. The rabbits
chew the stakes and are killed. It
is about the safest method to use
where thoie is likely to be stock about
Strychnine and Salt

ounce of brown sugar mixed togeth

of stock netting to it. or it may be
used whei'i stock might get to it by
driving stakes made of '1x2 notor

The Gocdyear Tire & Rubber com
pany hau completed arrangi'ments
with the Brazilliun government for
the erection of a South American
factory to be located just outside
the city of Rio Janiero. Construc
tionof the foundations has tlready
begun and it is believed that the
new factory will be completed within
a year and a half. The factory
group will consist of four buildings
built to allow for adequate expan
sion. At first 1,000 employees most
ly Brazilians, will operate the plant,
which will probably have a capacity
of about 1,500 tires and tubes a day.
Neither can the State University, the
