on December 17, 18 and 19, 1919.
All teachers who have not secured
Oregon State Certificates are re
quired to report for these examina
tions. Teachers may ecure old examina
tion questions for review by writing
to the County Superintendent of
Schoos.

ONTARIO. Oregon, Nov. 21.
Clinton E. Frye, for many years
resident of Ontario, died here last
Thursday. Mr. Frye practised den
tistry here for a number of years,
but because of his ill health was
obliged to turn over his practice to
Doctor Roberts last Spring. Mr. Frye
was born in Ohio, March 13th 1856.
His death was caused by a form of
heart disease. The funeral was held
from the McDowell Funeral Parlors
Saturday afternoon. Mr. Frye is
survived by one daughter who re
sides in Spokane, Washington.
Bert Clarkson, lineman employed
by the Idaho Power Company, was
killed here last Tuesday afternoon
while hansrinsr the wires on a new
pole in front of the Reed and John
son Blacksmith shop. Mr. Clarkson
was holding a charged cross-arm
with one hand when he grasped a
wire with the other hand and was
instantly killed. Mr. Clarkson came
from Horseshoe Bend, where his
mother, 2 brothers and a sister, who
survive him, live. The body was
taken to Horseshoe Bend, where the
funeral was held Thursday.
F. Leslie Body left last Saturday
night for Salem to attend the semi
annual meeting of the Oregon Com
mercial Club Secretaries which was
held there November 17th and 18th.
Mrs. Edna Griffin made a business
trip to Caldwell last Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Clemo left
Thursday evening for Portland to
spend a few weeks with Mr. Clemo's
parents, who reside near there.
The Wednesday Bridge Club met
at the home of Miss Laviner Smith
this week and was delightfully enter
tained. Millard Sage returned last week
from the Sage ranch at McDermitt.
Nevada, where he has been on bus
iness for his father for the past six
weeks.
Mrs. E. A. Fraser entertained the
"500" Club at her home last Tuesday
evening.
The Ontario football team played
the Weiser team at Weiser last Fri
day afternoon and defeated them
with a score of 42 to 0. Ontario
was not obliged to use a single sub
stitute throughout the game.
A Ukelele Club has been organized
in the High School under the direc
tion of Miss Cranley. Twenty girls
and lady members of the faculty are
members of the Club. This Club will
work in conjunction with the two
Glee Clubs and with them will give
a couple of concerts later in' the
year.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester T. Lackey
were hosts and hostess at a delicious
birthday dinner at their home last
Sunday. Covers were laid for nine.
Those present were, Mr. and Mrs.
James A. Lackey, Miss Mary Lackey
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Clemo, Mr. and
Mrs. James G. Smith, and Mr. and
Mrs. Chester Lackey
The Ontario football team will
play the Caldwell team at Caldwell
next Saturday afternoon for the
championship of the Short Line.
Frank Stowell purchased the Wag
goner property in Riverside last
week from II. H. Waggoner of Vale.
Mr. Stowell's brother, Leonard Sto
well, lately of Preston, Idaho, also
purchosed property on the East Side
last week from C. F. Loveland.
J. R. Fortier has begun excavat
ing for the basement of his new five
room bungalow.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Foster spent
Sunday in Caldwell on busines.
Mr. and Mrs. James Smith of Cald
well spent Sunday in Ontario visit
ing Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James A. Lackey,
A large number of Ontario theatre
fans attended the musical comedy
"Watch Your Step" at Weiser Tues
day night.
Mrs. George Kellogg entertained
the Tuesday Bridge Club at her
home in Weiser last Tuesday after
noon.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Shanahan of
Baker visited at the Frank Ryan
home the first of the week. Mrs.
Shanahan is a sister of Mrs. Frank
Ryan and Mrs. George Rheison, both
of this city. ,
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. De-frees are re
joicing over the birth of a beautiful
baby girl, born last Tuesday night.
Frank Irvinton was arrested on a
charge of burglery Tuesday and
was arrainged before Judge Steams.
He waived examination and bond
was fixed at one-thousand dolalrs.
He was confined to the jail where
he awaits the meeting of the Grand
Jury.

Moswell's ranch is building a new
house.
A meeting of all the ladies is called
at the Eachus home for Thursday
afternoon to organize an Aid So
ciety. Arthur Holly, who has been quite
sick was taken to the Sanitarium
at Vale last Thursday.
P. Barrett who is suffering with
muscular rheumatism spent a few
days at Vale Sanitarium.
E. H. Brumbach and Claud Eachus
transacted business in Caldwell Sa
turday.
Adrian can now boast of electric
lights. H. S. Hardman installed a
Delco-Light plant that furnishes
power to light the store, lumber yard
and the homes of the owners.
Robert Weir has purchased a plant
from the same agency and will soon
have his home electricaly lighted.
Grading and gravelling is being
done on the mail route road, it is
planned to have considerable gravell
ing done on the main roads during
the winter. .
A farewell surprise party was suc
cessfully carried out on the Morley
family last Thursday evening.
The house was crowded by the
grown people while the youngsters
spent the evening playing games
in the lawn. Lunch was brought by
the self-invited visitors and served
at a late hour. The guests presented
Mr. and Mrs.H Morley with a dozen
silverknives and forks as a token of
the esteem in which they were held
in this community and wished them
unbounded success in their new
home. Mrs. Morley and the two
younger children will go to Belvit,
Wis. for a visit with her parents
while Mr. Morley and the two older
girls leave for Eugene where they
plan to make heir future home. They
will have a sale on Monday, Nov. 24.
Mrs. J. Davis is entertaining
.friends from Nampa.
Miss Berdcll Brooks took the pu
pils in her room on a hike over to
Rim Rock Monday afternoon.
