LAND OFFICE FILINGS All Homesteads and Other Entries Filed a Vale -Office During Week. tl To call the attention of the thinking men and women of Malheur County to various problem of the day effecting their prosperity, welfare and happiness is the sincere aim of the Editorial policy of the Malheur Enterprise. What benefits may be derived depend upon what action you take. Talk, writing, thinking must be followed by actiim to accomplish any results. Are you doing your partT WE NEED A RIGBY, A TROW. A BROGAN. The bit? Warmsprings storage reservoir will hold ample water for If. 000 acres of land in addition to the 30.000 acres within the boundaries of the present project. The storage cost of this addi tional water has been paid and its use is necessary to justify this ex penditure. But what is more important is the possible benefits this water will bring to Ifi.OOO acres of now unproductive land in the Malheur Valley. The newly organized Harper district will use n part of this extra water and the balance should be placed on the bench land west of Vale. 8,000 or more thirsty acres of fine bench land now lay parched and useless within a few miles of the city of Vale. This land can be reached by a practical distribution Bystem using the sur plus storage water from the Warmsprings dam. The Bully Creek project is another water problem which will some day be solved and bring many thousands of acres of other fine bench lands under cultivation. Besides these projects there is sufficient water lost each spring in the run ofT from the North Fork of the Malheur River to provide water for thousands of acres of land. The Warmsprings project is just the fi.st step toward the development of the irrigation possibilities in the Malheur Drainage Basin. Whnt we need is some men with courage, back bone and foresight, men with ability and leadership to break the self satisfaction attitude of the people and lead them to further efforts in accomplishing the development of the Malheur Valley. Where arc the Trow's, the Rigby's, the Brogan's of the present generation. Nothing can be done by the lazy, the indifferent, the slacker. Everything is poss ible to the couragous, the energetic, the hard worker. Who will take up the the work of future development? m 1 Pfl T FARMERS TO CALL LABOR TO ITS SENSES. Can labor enforce a shortage of all manufactured necessities, keep wages at a level beyond any reasonable average by working 5 and (i hours a day and force the farmers to cut the price of raw products to the point that farmers will be compelled to work 12 or H hours a day to make a decent living? Not after the farm bureau organizations hecome federated on a national scale and the power of 30 or 40 million ranchers have an authorized medium to place their collective opinion before the public. We want to call to the attention of the labor leaders and the middle men and others to the ri ;ing political influence of the farmer. The fanner is the backbone of America and as soon as he gets organized thru the Farm Bureaus he is likely to take pver the thinking for America. If the farmer in the new , power which is sure to be his very soon, can withstand the temptation of class agnindizntion, and can uphold the principles of true, simple Americanism, he can lead this nation and the world to safety thru the njidst of the present industrial chaos.
