they had been spending a few days
with W. G. Pennington and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Baird and
little son Irwin attended the Birthday
dinner at the G. H. Ricker in Vale
on the 18th, given in honor of their
"grandma" Godfrey's 100th birthday.
The dear old lady was the recipient
of 160 birthday cards from the pupils
of the Vale grammer school. Each
of the little ones addressing their own
card.

school in Boise visited her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Boston Easter
Sunday.
W. Jones has the best mule colt in

years fell here a few days ago which
was much needed as water for irriga
tion will not be turned in the ditches
for some weeks yet on account of the
usual routine of work.
Mr. Gilmore recently purchased he
Edgar Hapkee ranch and located with
his family on name.
Len Christiansen lost a fine heifer
a few days ago, Caused from being
bloated on alfalfa.
Mrs. E. J. Patch went to Boise last
week on a business trip.
Oscar Estby and two daughters

Celebration
BIG BEND, Ore. Apri. 30 Every
one in the community is urged to be
at the park Sunday afternoon, May 11
at three o'clock to arrange for the
fourth of July celebration. Hereto
fore the celebrations have been decid
edly successful and this year plans are
being' made to have a much larger
celebration in every way.
Mrs. Mary Kirkpatrick of Parma
spent last Friday at the home of Mrs.
E. L. Tate.
Word has been received here that L.
H. Ekin, who has been ill in Boise
for some time, has so far recovered
that he and Mrs. Ekin have gone to
their new home in Canada.
D. L. Miller went to Vale Tuesday
having been summoned to serve as
juror.
School in district 46 was dismissed
Thursday and most of the children
went to Parma to see the whippet
tank.
A fair sized crowd attended the
benefit dance given by the band at
Holly Hall Wednesday night.

Fred L. Sheets for some time fore
man of printers at the Enterprise shop
leaves this week for Nyssa where he
will become editor of the Gate City
Journal, Mr. Sheets is well known in
newspaper circles in this county and
thruout Eastern Oregon, having work
ed on many of the papers in this
section. For Beveral months before
coming to Vale Mr. Sheets edited the;
Nyssa paper and gave his readers one
of the neatest and newsiest papers of
the county. He is thoroughly familier
with the Nyssa field and greatly in
terested in the development of that
section and all Malheur County.

Attorney P. J. Gallagher of Ontario
and brother E. J. Gallagher lately of
Witchita Kansas were in Vale this
week while Attorney Gallagher at
tended court sessions. They bring
news that the U. S. Plumbing arTi!
Heating company of Ontario has been
incorporated by L. G. Olson and them
selves and will operate under the name
of the U. S. Manufacturing company
incorporated. The new plant will spec
ialize in sheet iron work of all kinds.
