SCHOOL PLAY SUCCESS
Girls of Domestic Science Department
Make Good in Comedy
Play.
Last Saturday evening at the Rex
Theater the girls of the domestic
science andart department of the Vale
high school appearel in the three act
comedy Miss Fearless and Company,
before one of the best audiences ever
assembled in the theater. The girls
did full justice to every line of the
play and carried out their parts with
a professional air, reflecting credit
upon their trainers Mrs Norton and
Miss Hill.
The comedy lines of the play were
especially well given and kept the au
dience laughing most of the evening.
The characters of the country cousin
Sarah Jane and the Irish Maid w'ere
given the most opportunities for "laugh
lines" and Myrtle Wann and Elsie
O'Neil took these parts to a niceity.
Bernice Hope as Margaret Henley fit
ted the part perfectly as did Marie
Smith, Dollio Lawrence and Myrtle
Griffith the parts of the girl's friends.
Inez Palmer, as the Old Maid, Miss
Euphenia, kept the rest of the cast
busy with her realistic fainting spells,
While Rose Jwisen as the little girl,
"Just Lizzie" made good during her
short time, on the stage. Lois King
and Frankie Edwards as the two boys
Alias and Alibi were very man-like
in their actions and kept the audience
in nn uproar when they appeared.
Music between acts by the Vale
orchestra and the Vale high school
girls filled the pauses.
FAME AND FORTUNE
Dramatic Whirlwind of Bullets, Brav
cry and Love is Title Applied
to Fox Masterpiece.

Land Board Given Power
House Bill "243, by Gallagher will
be of great assistance to the State
in the development of its lands, and
it gives to the State Land Board the
same power and authority over the
lands of the State as is now enjoyed
by an individual over his own lands
and the Board is directed to at once
perfect the title to all of its swamp
lands, and investigate land frauds, to
generally put the lands of the state
in shape for1 reclamation, through
irrigation or drainage, and to contract
with the government, or other agency
for the reclamation of the same. It
is anticipated that within five years,
under the provisions of this act, that
the lands of the state will be in pri
vate ownership and on the tax rolls
of the various counties. This bill is
of particular interest to Counties like
Lake, Klamath and Harney, where
there are large areas of swamp land.
Other bills of local interest intro
duced by Gallagher and which are
now on the statute books and of inter
est to the local community as shown
by the final icalander are house bill
39, making it a crime for commission
men, or buyers of live stock at mar
ket centers to enter into combina
tions for the prevention of competii
tivc bidding on stdck offered for sale;
'House Bill 80, making life insurance
notes non-n"gotiable for 30 days af
ter making, this gives the assured
time to receive his policy before his
note can bo negotiated, and gotten
into the hands of an innocent party.
House Bill 75, allowing the assured
reasonable attorney fee where suit
is brought on a' policy of insurance;
House Bill 112, enabling Malheur
County to retire its road and bridge
bonds out of the general fund, thus
cutting off the interest charge the
county is now paying; House Bill 2G7,
appropriating $16,000 for soil surveys
and duty of water investigations to
be carried on by the agricultural col
lege. House Bill 433 appropriating
$10,000.00 for the eradication of pre
datory animals, and allowing the
counties' to cooperate in this work by
like, or larger appropriations, and
coperation with the department of
Agriculture.
