The general problem is to help the Malheur county towns grow, the Yeager, J. A., Sealer Weights & Measures
farmers and stockmen prosper and reclaim and utilize the two million
acres of tilllble land, now idling untouched and mostly unclaimed, in order
to provide homes for thousands of returning heros .and homcseekers. In
order to accomplish this the Malheur Enterprise proposes advocates and
will work for the) following program of progess to which time will make
additions and amendments. And like any program the completion depends
upon the support and cooperation of all concerned. Read' over the following,
pick out whnt movements you can help and get busy boosting. Real boosting
means more hard work than hot air, so pull your coat off and do your part,
ine Dig jou or developing Malheur county consists of the following
important matters that need immediate consideration and assistance. They
might be .called Malheur County's Fourteen points in the program for a
lasting prosperity.
1. The successful Completion of the Warmsprings project.
2. Government approprcation for the Owyhee Project.
3. Clear way for construction of Bully Creek Project.
4. Settlement of 4,000,000 acres of tilllble and grazing homestead lands.
5. Settlement of Warmsprings and Jordan Valley Project lands.
6. Adoption of comprehensive County road system serving' and connecting
all parts of the County.
7. State nnd federal aid in highway construction.

These newspaper quotations
represent live cattle prices in
Chicago on December 30th, 1918.
The list shows price ranges
on nine general classified groups
with a spread of $13.85 per cwt
the lowest at $6.50 and the
highest at $20.35.
Why. this variation in price?
Because the meat from differ
ent animals varies greatly in
quality and weight
Although the quotations
shown are in nine divisions,
Swift & Company grades cattle
into 34 general classes, and each
class into a variety of .weights
and qualities.
As a result of these differences in
cattle prices, (due to differences in
weights and meat qualities), there is a
range of 15 cents in Swift. & Com
pany's selling prices of beef car
casses. These facts explain:
1 Why retail prices vary in
different stores.
2 Why it would be difficult to '
regulate prices of cattle or
beef.
3 Why it requires experts to
judge cattle and to sell meat,
so as to yield the profit of
only a fraction of a cent a
pound a profit too small to
affect prices.
